Formby connects with Florida Gators OC Rob Sale on Wednesday

On Wednesday, the Florida Gators coaching staff sent out a new offer to an offensive lineman from the state of Alabama.

Offensive lineman Wilkin Formby (6-7, 300, Tuscaloosa, AL. Northridge) picked up an offer after he talked to the Gators offensive coordinator.

“Coach [Rob] Sale, he offered me,” Formby said on the coach from Florida who offered him. “It was an easy conversation because right from the start I found out that when he coached at Alabama he lived in my old neighborhood. He also coached with my strength coach.”

Formby was excited to hear the news of an offer from Florida as he believes the Gators are a team to watch in the future.

“It means a lot, Florida is a great program,” he said on what the offer means to him. “They have a lot of winning history and I feel like they’re a good up and coming program with a new staff. It will be interesting to see what happens there.”

Offensive line coach Rob Sale spent most of the conversation on Wednesday trying to get to know the lineman and defensive line coach Sean Spencer also got in touch with Formby on Wednesday.

“It was really brief, basically it was just us meeting each other over the phone,” Formby said on the conversation with Sale. “I’ve been talking to Coach Spencer too because he’s my area guy and is trying to get to know me.”

Now that Formby has an offer from the Gators, the lineman hopes to visit Gainesville this spring.

“I do hope to visit them soon, I don’t have a for sure date set yet,” he said on his interest in Florida. “I look forward to checking out what they have to offer and meeting everyone.”

Formby is right down the road from the University of Alabama but he says being close to home isn’t important to him and he will go to whichever school fits him best.

“My sister plays volleyball in Palm Beach Atlantic which is 11 hours away so that’s proof that my family doesn’t have a problem with distance,” Formby said on if distance is a factor for him. “I just want to go where it’s best for me and where God wants me to be. Distance doesn’t play a factor.”
