This weekend, the Florida Gators hosted several top targets on campus as they look to round out the Class of 2027 with targets to fill needs.
Defensive back Raheem Floyd (6-2, 170, East St. Louis, IL. High) was on campus and enjoying being around the coaching staff including head coach Jon Sumrall.
“The highlights, just being here with the coaches, they have great coaches here,” Floyd said of his visit to Florida this weekend. “It’s a great facility and a great place to be. I feel like they can win a national championship and it would be a great place to be.”
Floyd was glad to be in town with his family but he also enjoyed watching the team go through practice on Friday.
“Just being out here with the family and them all having a good time,” he said on what stood out to him. “Then watching OTA’s, just seeing how they practice, seeing how fast pace it is and how intense it is. It’s great energy on the field and I feel like it’s a beautiful place to play.”
While on his visit, Floyd was hosted by two defensive backs including one who shared his experience of getting to Gainesville.
“Cormani McClain the first day and then Ben Hanks the second day,” Floyd said on his player host. “They just told me it’s a great program. Cormani gave me his background, how he came from Colorado, how he transferred and then elevated himself as a player. Watching him practice it shows, he’s taking all of it in and just putting his head down and grinding.”
Cornerbacks coach Brandon Harris spent a lot of time with Floyd and the defensive back likes how he coaches the game.
“I feel like he’s doing a great job, I feel like he’s doing a great job coaching,” he said on what stands out about Coach Harris. “Even in the 10 minutes of Indy, how he’s detailed with the players and making them better and just how the drills translated to the game.”
Heading into the weekend, Missouri had the most buzz around Floyd’s recruitment but he says two schools are on top right now.
“I think they’re the two schools setting the pace right now, Missouri, that’s home, that’s the hometown team, a great program to be in and they’ve been winning recently,” Floyd said on his top two schools. “Florida, they’ve got to win but I feel like they’re on the rise and on the road to success.”
Floyd plans to announce his decision on July 1st and he says he has to go back home and think on things before then.
“I’m not going to say there’s one kind of setting the edge, but I feel like they’re both great programs and I’ve got like a week or two to decide,” he said. “Just taking it back home and deciding, weighing the options out. I feel like it’s going to be a hard decision but come down to it, I’m not sure right now.”
