Florida talking to Penn State receiver commit

Because nobody seems to know whether Ermon Lane will stick to his Florida commitment or not, the Gators have begun looking at other wide receiver targets including Chris Godwin (6-2, 202, Middletown, DE High), who is committed to Penn State. Godwin spoke to Florida for the first time last week.

“I talked to coach (Drew) Hughes the recruiting coordinator but  it wasn’t nothing big yet,” Godwin said. “He just let me know that they are interested and they are going to pursue me down the stretch until signing day.”

Right now Godwin doesn’t hold a Florida offer but if he gets one he might take an official visit to Gainesville.

“I’m not sure if I would take an official or not if they offered me,” Godwin said. “I haven’t really given it that much thought since I’ve down here at the Under Armour game. It’s definitely something that I would think very hard about though.”

Godwin has never visited Florida before but he does know a good bit about the Florida program in general.

“Florida has a lot of history,” Godwin said. “Traditionally they are really good and they are a major program. It’s somewhere that I would be interested in if they offered me and starting pursuing me hard.”

Because he’s watched Duke play, Godwin is  familiar with Florida’s new offensive coordinator, Kurt Roper.

“Yeah I have watched Duke a lot,” Godwin said. “They had a really good season this year and a really good offense so I’ve seen Coach (Kurt) Roper coach. His offense gets the ball in his playmakers hands.”

All of this news comes after Penn State coach Bill O’Brien left Penn State to the Houston Texans, a move that definitely has had a profound affect on Godwin.

“Yeah it does affect me a good bit,” Godwin said. “I just have to sit back and see who they get right now and after that I’ll go from there but it’s a big loss to me.

Vanderbilt and Florida have been the two schools who have been recruiting Godwin since coach O’Brien left.
