Florida takes the lead for Coney

Linebacker Tevon Coney (6-0, 221, Palm Beach Gardens, FL High) was one of the top prospects in attendance on Friday Night in Gainesville and he’s actually spending three days in town.

“We arrived yesterday [Wednesday] and it was pretty great because it was very calm,” Coney said. “We got to talk to the coaches and see everything and the school. Really just got to see everything once again so that was good.”

This isn’t Coney’s first trip to Gainesville, but it’s his mother’s first trip and so far so good for Florida with mom.

“My mom loved it and she’s excited,” Coney said. “She’s ready to see more on Saturday. She’s been blown away by everything so far.”

During the day and before things got hectic on Friday, Coney was able to sit down with Will Muschamp and talk about everything with Florida’s head man.

“Coach Muschamp said that I’m the only linebacker that will be graduating early that they want,” Coney said. “Coach Muschamp said that I could come in and be a leader at the Mike position and do something special for the Gators”

Not only were Will Muschamp and the coaches recruiting Coney but he had the Gators’ top player-recruiter, Tyler Jordan, in his ear during Friday Night Lights as well.

“Tyler just says that Florida is a great program and that they are trying to get a top 5 class,” Coney said. “Tyler said they are trying to build a great class and Tyler tells me that I’m one of the missing pieces.”

Nobody really has to sell Florida to Coney because he already likes the Gators and called it his dream offer back in the winter.

“Florida has lived up to my expectations because I knew it was a great school when I called it my dream offer,” Coney said. “I knew I had to explore my options but Florida has been a great experience for me and my family.”

Despite knowing that Florida is a good school Coney still has yet to make a decision but it could come at any time.

“I have seen enough to make my decision, I think,” he said. “But I’m just going to continue talking to the coaches and my parents to see where their head is at. I may just have to shock to the world and announce one day.”

The visit solidified Coney’s list of suitors and it’s good news for Gator fans.

“Florida is my leader over Notre Dame right now,” Coney said. “Notre Dame is a great program, Miami is a great program, Auburn and Tennessee as well.”

INSIDER TAKE: Coney loves Florida and when he talks about the coaching staff his face lights up. I don’t think Coney wants to rush anything in his commitment but I do know that Florida is a school he likes a lot and having his mom along on the visit helped Florida even more.
