Florida sees Schwartz playing the Percy Harvin role

Orlando — Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen is known for having speedy receivers in his offense and he’s currently recruiting one of the fastest guys in the 2018 class.

Receiver Anthony Schwartz (6-0, 172, Fort Lauderdale, FL. American Heritage) says he has been talking to receivers coach Billy Gonzales as the Gators see the speedster fitting a role filled by a former Gator great.

“I’ve mainly been talking to Coach Gonzales the receivers coach,” Schwartz said on who he talks to from Florida. “He says he really likes me and he really likes what he can do with me. He wants to do with me like how he did with Percy [Harvin.]

Schwartz was excited to hear the role that Gonzales and Mullen had in mind for him as he has high praise for Harvin.

“Percy is one of the greatest college football players and what he did at Florida, it would just be a honor to mirror that,” he said on what he thinks of the Percy role.

The speedy receiver had a good relationship with the past Florida staff but he says the rebuilding part of the relationship stage is going well with him and the new staff.

“It’s going pretty well, starting to get that relationship there,” he said on his relationship with the new staff. “

The Gators coaching staff also received a boost in recruiting when quarterback Emory Jones signed with Florida and that caught Schwartz’s attention as well.

“It’s a big thing because he’s a great quarterback obviously number two dual threat quarterback,” Schwartz said of Emory Jones to Florida. “I know he can throw the ball deep, I seen that on his highlights.”

Jones has already reached out to Schwartz about joining him in Gainesville as he has a message for the South Florida receiver.

“He just kind of wants to build the class back up,” he said on Jones message to him. “It kind of fell apart with the coaching change but now he wants to build it back up.”

Schwartz plans to announce a commitment on Thursday between three SEC schools.

“Yes,” Schwartz said on if he’s still announcing at the Under Armour game. “Florida, Auburn and Georgia [on who he’s deciding between].”

When Schwartz announces on Thursday, the receiver says he will still consider other schools and visits.

“I’m planning on taking maybe two visits,” Schwartz said on if he will visit anyone after he commits at the game. “Definitely take visits to Auburn and Florida and maybe Georgia.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Auburn is the team to beat right now but Florida is still in the mix if they can receive that visit.
