Florida lands commitment from three-star tight end Tae’shaun Gelsey

The Florida Gators landed a commitment from three-star tight end Tae’shaun Gelsey on Saturday afternoon, who picked UF over Tulane, Auburn, and Wake Forest. Gelsey took official visits to Florida and Tulane throughout his recruitment process.

“Development, production. I’m just trying to get to the league,” Gelsey said on what he’s looking for in a program. “I’m going to put myself in the best position I can.”

That was Florida for the 6’4, 215-pound athletic tight end. While some recruiting services still label Gelsey as a wide receiver, Florida sees the Jacksonville, Florida product as a tight end, drawing comparisons to former Gator great Kyle Pitts.

“That matchup nightmare type of position,” Gelsey said on where Florida has him playing. “I think it’s a great idea because they’ve shown that they can make that position get to the NFL. Kyle Pitts went 4th overall in the NFL Draft, so just following behind that. I think it’s a great idea.”

Former Gator defensive back Dee Webb agrees with the Kyle Pitts comparisons, writing “The next Kyle Pitts I’ve coached against this kid last 2 yrs,” on a social media post.

Gelsey is the second tight end commitment in Florida’s 2025 class, joining three-star Micah Jones, who committed to UF on June 21st.

Florida was late to offer the Jacksonville, Florida native, extending an official offer on May 17th, something Gelsey had been waiting on for quite some time. The Gators were able to lock in a commitment from Gelsey just 43 days later.

“I’ve been on Florida for like the past two years, so just getting this offer was a dream come true to me,” Gelsey told Gator Country.

Gelsey has built a great relationship with quality control coach (wide receivers) Chad Lucas and tight end coach / co offensive coordinator Russ Callaway, which made a significant impact on his recruitment

“I’m real big on relationships and they showed me a lot of that this weekend, “Gelsey said after his OV to Florida. “That put them up there.”

Gelsey hauled in 48 passes for 859 yards and 9 TD in his junior season at Riverside High School.

Florida holds eight commitments in the 2025 class after Gelsey’s addition, which includes two tight ends and two running backs.
