Florida Gators WR Trent Whittemore to enter transfer portal

The redshirt sophomore announced his decision to transfer on Monday night.

“I’ve been a Gator for as long as I can remember,” Whittemore wrote in a Twitter post. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to have played for the University of Florida and earned my degree. Thanks to Coach McElwain, Coach Mullen, and Coach Napier for their parts in my journey. A special thanks also to coach Gonzales, Coach KC, and Coach Savage for all their poured into me. Most of all I appreciate the relationships built and time spent with my teammates. It’s the friendships and the memories that I will treasure most. With that being said, I have now entered the transfer portal as a graduate student.”

Whittemore battled injuries throughout his career at Florida, totaling 33 receptions, 425 yards, and two touchdowns in three seasons. Whittemore started eight games in 2021 but wasn’t seeing the field nearly as much under head coach Billy Napier, mustering just four receptions on 47 offensive snaps in 2022.

Transfer slot receiver Ricky Pearsall played a huge factor in Whittemore’s decrease in playing time this season. Pearsall has emerged as one of Florida’s best offensive weapons and an every down player.

The Gainesville product was a part of Florida’s 2019 recruiting class, committing to the Gators on May 28th of 2017, just six days after his offer. Despite receiving offers from other schools, Whittemore never wavered his commitment to Florida.

Trent’s brother, Creed Whittemore, pledged to the Florida Gators’ 2023 recruiting class before recently flipping his commitment to Mississippi State on October 16th.

Trent Whittemore is eligible to enter the transfer portal before the December 5th open date because he’s a graduate transfer. Meaning he can start picking up offers and going on visits right away. I expect Mississippi State to be firmly in the mix for Whittemore.
