Jim McElwain Press Conference 9-7-16: Florida Gators Notebook
Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain met with the media on Wednesday. He gave an update
on injuries, the game plan for Kentucky, and growth of the offense in practice this week.
Gator Country brings a notebook of what he said.
Injuries
• CJ Worton was running good at practice today and not laboring, he will be back for the Kentucky game.
• Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells need to get back into the swing of things after missing some practice, but both are expected to play this weekend.
• Duke Dawson was fine at practice today.
• Daniel McMillian was back at practice today, McElwain said he is a tough guy and wants to be back out there.
Kentucky
• The Gators are not overlooking Kentucky. “Great teams, the opponents don’t matter,” said McElwain.
• The team understands that Saturday is an opportunity and they are ready to take advantage of it.
• “These guys are an explosive offense,” McElwain said on Kentucky.
• 11 true freshman played in the season opener, McElwain said more will play this week.
Offense
• The offensive line has worked hard this week.
• They are planning to use the running backs in a lot of different ways against Kentucky.
• Worton will roll into the rotation at receiver this weekend and carry some of the load Dre Massey left.
• “They’re definitely not trying not to make explosive plays,” McElwain said on the offense.
• Antonio Callaway stepped up and was excited about playing on Saturday, Mac is excited about his growth.
• Callaway is a guy that loves to practice and McElwain said it reflects his play on the field.
“They’re definitely not trying not to make explosive plays,” McElwain said on the offense
I must be tired, but what does that mean? Are they trying to “BE” explosive organically? Any hoo. Go Gators.
Stunk for 7 games? True, plus Mizzou, ECU, and UK last year. And if we are technical, it’s been a ho-hum offense since Tebow went down against UK in ’09 when everyone freaked out that a guy with a concussion would play two weeks later. I mean ’09 had some highlights, but Tebow masked the stench of Addazio. Point being its been almost 7 years of unreliable offense.
