Florida Gators volleyball starts spring ranked number 11

Special report on the Florida Gators volleyball team:

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida will open the spring portion of its 2020-21 schedule ranked 11th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Top-25 poll, as announced on Tuesday.

With the No. 11 spot, the Gators run their streak to 29 consecutive years of ranking in the top-15 of the AVCA preseason poll – the third longest streak in the nation (Nebraska, Stanford – both still active). The AVCA had an abridged Top-15 poll in the fall because of numerous conferences not competing due to COVID-19.

During the fall portion of the schedule, the Gators went 6-2, picking up sweeps over Alabama and Auburn. Florida split its series with both South Carolina and Georgia, finishing the fall tied for second in the SEC (Arkansas, Missouri).

The Gators finished first half of the season ranked in the Top-15 nationally in four different categories: fourth in blocks per set (2.95), 10th in hitting percentage (.261), 13th in opponent hitting percentage (.163) and 14th in assists per set (12.36).

Lauren Dooley and Nnedi Okammor are both ranked in the Top-10 in the nation in blocks per set, sitting fourth (1.54) and eighth (1.30), respectively.

Florida kicks off the spring portion of the 2020-21 schedule on Jan. 29/30 with a series at Ole Miss.
