Florida Gators tight end Nick Elksnis announces intent to enter transfer portal

The redshirt freshman took to social media to announce his intent to enter the transfer portal on December 5th.

“Wearing the Orange and Blue has been a childhood dream come true,” Elksnis wrote in a Twitter post. “Studying and growing as an individual at the University of Florida has been an honor, and I am forever grateful for the foundation this team gave me in my college career.”

“I want to thank Coach Mullen and Coach Brewster for recruiting me and giving me this opportunity, Coach Napier and Coach Peagler for furthering my development, the strength staff for their intense training and relentless pursuit of elevating my performance, and the training staff for their expertise and detailed approach to my care.”

“I want to thank the team at the Hawkins center for guiding me in academic decisions and supporting me every step of the way. And to my teammates – thank you for holding me accountable and making me a better player and teammate. You all are my brothers for life.”

“This last year as presented personal challenges and setbacks. After much prayer, consideration, and unwavering support from my family, I feel it is in my best interest to pursue a fresh start. Therefore, I will be entering the transfer portal on December 5th.”

“This place will always be special to me, and the memories I have made in Gainesville will stay with me forever. Thank you, Gator Nation.”

Nick Elksnis was an intriguing prospect, standing at 6-6, 234 pounds and ranked as the No.14 tight end in the country out of high school.  Much like Whittemore, Elksnis battled injuries throughout his two years at Florida.

In 2021, Elksnis appeared in four games as a true freshman and redshirted. He was named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

Elksnis saw action in five games this season, primarily on special teams. He appeared at tight end in the Gators’ win over Eastern Washington.

When Keon Zipperer announced he was out for the season due to an injury, it was redshirt sophomore Jonathan Odom that filled his role. I expect Zipperer and Odom to return next season.

Elksnis can enter his name into the transfer portal on December 5th, which is the beginning of a 45-day window for players to enter the portal.
