Florida Gators suspend Treon Harris indefinitely

Florida Gators freshman quarterback Treon Harris has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities in connection to a sexual assault that was reported to the University of Florida Police Department early Sunday morning.

The UFPD crime log shows that police were called at 12:49 a.m. Sunday to the Springs Residential Complex — a dorm that houses many student-athletes — to investigate a “sexual battery.” The log lists the case as pending or still under investigation.

The university released a statement from their relations department, rather than from the University Athletic Association (UAA), which shows how the school and president are taking over the matter.

Here is the entire statement for Florida regarding the matter.

University of Florida student athlete Treon Harris is accused of sexually assaulting a female student early Sunday morning in a residence hall on the UF campus.

The University of Florida Police Department is investigating the incident, and UFPD has brought in the Gainesville Police Department to assist with collection and analysis of forensic evidence.

The investigation is ongoing and we do not have an update regarding any charges at this time.

The University of Florida and the University Athletic Association are cooperating fully.

Due to legal and privacy requirements, there are limitations as to what the university can say publicly about a pending matter such as this. In these types of serious situations, Student Affairs initiates the Student Conduct Code process. Often, a student may be suspended on an interim basis, which means he or she is banned from campus and all campus activities, pending the outcome of the conduct process.

UAA has suspended Treon Harris from all team activities.

“We have no tolerance for sexual assault on our campus,” UF President Bernie Machen said. “The university is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for every member of the UF community. We must strive to protect all of our students from sexual harassment and assault, and do everything in our power to promote a safe learning environment.”

UF continues to provide a wide variety of support services and resources. The university continually enhance its campus efforts to address issues of sexual assault and harassment.
As this process unfolds and is resolved, UF is committed to addressing this serious matter with integrity, fairness and compassion.

Harris was set to take over the starting quarterback role this week against LSU.

Treon Harris is being represented by Gainesville attorney Huntley Johnson.

Will Muschamp’s usual Monday morning press conference was postponed this morning and a rescheduled time has not been set as of this story being published.

This is an updated story from an earlier story today that you can read here or on our message boards.

  1. Holy Crap! I guess he was annionted too quickly. I know it’s too early to say what the heck is going on here-but the fact that he is even involved in an investigation is just ridiculous. One day after his coming out game? Well if his teammates can rally behind HIM, they better rally behind Jeff cause things just fell apart in Gator town and our old QB needs the support! First at Fla State, now here? Seeing he isn’t on the national championship team and he isn’t in the states capital-he better have a good lawyer. Ugh…just awful. Unacceptable. Good God. Even losing is better than this!

  2. Let’s hope the accusation is unfounded. We will just have to wait for the investigation to unfold and see if the authorities feel there is enough evidence to charge Harris. Other than that, it’s useless to speculate. It’s pretty clear that Harris won’t be starting against LSU, though. I doubt the process will happen quick enough to absolve him in time to get enough practice to start. It means at least another week of jeff Driskel, because Grier is probably a disaster waiting to happen with him falling behind Harris and not even able to practice in recent weeks. I don’t think Muschamp should be the coach, but this is kind of piling on the poor guy. I thought first team to 14 wins Saturday, I may revise that to the team that can actually score a point.

  3. Aww…did I detect some sympathy from Snowflake? Muschamp has got to be the most unluckiest son of a bitch in all of CFB. Like it or not it’s Driskel ….I hope he has the same kind of support from teammates that was given to Treon….and I don’t think the university would have acted so swiftly and deliberately if there was not a sufficient amount of smoke around this.

    • Scooterp, the University really had no choice. Whether true or not this is a serious allegation and they have to treat it as such until Harris is absolved of wrong doing. When are these guys going to learn not to hook up with women they do not know or can’t trust? Amazing how stupid a 20 year old young man can be. Same goes for these young women as well. Stupidity runs rampant these days and our legal system just makes it worse.
