Florida Gators start season in top-10

The Florida Gators will start the 2019 season as a top-10 football team. The USA Today Coaches Poll was released Thursday afternoon and the Florida Gators come in ranked No. 8 in the country.

Dan Mullen and the Gators went into the 2018 season unranked in preseason polls. Mullen and his coaching staff did a tremendous job to turn around a program that had fallen on hard times. The Gators finished 2018 with a 10-3 record and a Peach Bowl victory. Florida finished the season ranked No. 6 overall in the final CFP Playoff poll.

The Gators’ strong finish to 2018 and a deep core of returning starters warrants their high preseason ranking.

Six SEC teams found the preseason top-25. Florida State and Miami find themselves on the outside looking in, while UCF checks in tied at No. 17 with Wisconsin.

Nick de la Torre
A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
