Florida Gators softball sweeps Saturday doubleheader

TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 4 Florida struck for 25 total runs in a pair of five-inning victories over San Diego, 12-4, and Utah State, 13-1, during the second day of the Littlewood Classic held at Farrington Stadium.

The Gators (10-0) pounded out 15 hits en route to the run-rule victory over San Diego (2-7) in the first game and added 11 more in the final game against the Aggies (2-6).

Overall, junior Kendyl Lindaman was a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, three runs scored, two walks and a hit-by-pitch, while she also belted her first home run as a Gator.

Against San Diego, five Florida batters notched multi-hit games with redshirt junior Sophia Reynoso going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored.

Jaimie Hoover helped spearhead the offensive efforts against Utah State as she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, a double and a home run. The Suwannee, Ga. native also ripped her second triple of the year in the effort against San Diego.
In the circle, freshmen Danni Farley (1-0) and Elizabeth Hightower (1-0) each received starts and picked up their first career wins as Gators.

How It Happened – San Diego– W, 12-4 (5 Innings)
The Gators struck for at least a run in all five innings against the Toreros with big innings in the first, fourth and the fifth.

A Lindaman RBI single in the first sparked a three run inning for the Gators. Hannah Adams drew a bases loaded RBI walk and an infield RBI single by Reynoso capped off the inning.

Florida scored three more runs in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead over Utah State. Reynoso produced an RBI single to left field while Danni Farley drew a bases loaded walk and Amanda Lorenz sent a shot out to center field for a SAC fly.

UF wrapped up its scoring with a four-run fifth inning. Hoover ripped a two-RBI triple down the right field line that scored Adams and Brittany Allen. Reynoso singled up the middle to score Hoover and pinch-hitter Amanda Bean capped the scoring with an RBI single that plated Reynoso.

How It Happened – Utah State – W, 13-1 (5 Innings)
The Gators replicated their scoring efforts against the Aggies as the team scored in every inning.

Lindaman started the scoring again for the Gators in the second game against Utah State with a three-run home run that hit the top of the wall in left field and bounced over.

The Gators railed off six runs in the second inning via a Roberts RBI single to right field, an infield single by Adams and a three-run home run by Hoover.

Lorenz and Roberts tacked on two more runs in the third on an RBI single and a SAC fly to right. Hoover concluded the scoring in the fifth and final frame with an RBI single up the middle.
