Florida Gators softball earns #5 national seed

Special report on the Florida Gators softball team:

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators softball team will host an NCAA Regional for the 15th consecutive season at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The team found out their placement as the national No. 5 seed during tonight’s selection show on ESPN2.

Joining Florida (44-15) in the Gainesville Regional will be Stanford (32-18), Boise State (34-14) and Boston University (37-18).

The Gators have hosted an NCAA Regional every year under the direction of head coach Tim Walton. The double-elimination regional starts Friday, May 17 through Sunday, May 19.

As the No. 5 seed in this year’s tournament, the Gators will have the opportunity to host an NCAA Super Regional should the team prevail out of the Gainesville Regional. The team would then face the winner out of the Knoxville Regional.

Gators in the NCAA Tournament

  • The Gators hold a 41-19 (.683) record overall at the NCAA Regional play.
    • The win percentage increases to .837 (36-7) during the Walton era.
  • Since 2006, UF has posted 26 shutouts in 41 regional games played and has outscored opponents 126-24 over that span.
  • Florida has earned a Top 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the 12thconsecutive season. It’s also the second time that UF has been selected as a No. 2 national seed.

Andrew always knew he wanted to be involved with sports in some capacity. He began by coaching high school football for six years before deciding to pursue a career in journalism. While coaching, he was a part of two state semifinal teams in the state of Alabama. Given his past coaching experience, he figured covering recruiting would be a perfect fit.
