Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: September 5th edition

The Florida Gators recruiting efforts have been going strong over the last month, as the Gators will take some big momentum into the 2019 season.

Gator Country’s members have a lot of questions about how the 2020 class will shake out and who are the top prospects that the Gators are still after.

We answer your questions in this week’s Florida Gators recruiting mailbag.

Well let’s dive right in to this week’s recruiting mailbag:

Johnl: Is there any interest between Javier Morton and UF?

AS: There was some interest early on and it died down, there’s still a little but it looks like LSU is the team to beat for Morton now. We will continue to monitor his recruitment just in case he does decide to visit Gainesville though.

Kdm: Seems like Safety will be a big need in 2021, but we don’t seem to be in on many top guys. Is Wilcoxon slated to play there and who else are our top targets that have shown interest besides James Williams and David Daniel?

AS: Wilcoxson is slated to play safety and the Gators like his game a lot at the position. Florida is after James Williams, David Daniel, Xavien Sorey and Ahmari Harvey as well. It’s still early to really set the board for safety in 2021 but it’s off to a good start in a year where they need to get a few safeties.

Gatorfantone247: How are things looking with Diwun Black do you expect him to end up with our Gators next season?

AS: Black has to stay in JUCO for three semesters so still a lot of time to go there. Black has said the right things about wanting to come back to Gainesville but again it all depends on how he does in JUCO.

Macbgator: What is the latest on RB recruits, have we expanded the board, any new names???

AS: No new names on the board at running back yet and honestly not much movement with targets at the position. As Florida starts to host home games, it will be interesting to see which guys show up for visits and who doesn’t. After we see that, we should have a better idea of which guys Florida has a legit chance with or not.

Macbgator: Have we increased our chances with lineman Dumervil, and do you think he will sign to be a GATOR???

AS: I think Florida is still trending up for Marcus Dumervil following his visit to Gainesville for Friday Night Lights. The Gators still have to battle LSU and Oklahoma but he has already visited both of those schools officially which helps the Gators cause some.

Gatorfantone247: Do you think having Herron back on our coaching staff will really help with Don Chaney Jr.? Which recruits should Herron help us with?

AS: I don’t see Chaney coming to Florida honestly but if he visits then anything can happen. Georgia has been the team to watch outside of Miami but right now all signs point towards Chaney staying with Miami.

Herron will help with South Florida guys and you should start to see it pay off more in the 2021 class as he has more time with those guys. Issiah Walker is a 2020 guy that Herron can help the Gators with though.

BCNGator99: Which FSU commitments would this staff accept a commitment from? And are they still talking to them?

AS: Not many to be honest, Florida still talks with Lawrence Toafili some but even that communication has died down for the most part. There really hasn’t been that much battle between Florida and FSU for recruits this year.
