Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: September 21st edition

The Florida Gators coaching staff has put together a solid 2021 class already and have started to work on the 2022 class now that they’re able to start calling and texting those guys.

Dan Mullen and the coaching staff have a few more spots remaining in the class as they look to finish off on some needs in the class.

GatorCountry brings you a recruiting mailbag to answer your questions on the 2021 class as well as the 2022 class.

Check out the mailbag here to get all the answers to your questions.

Camtheman: Are we done at WR or are we still trying to flip any guys (i.e. Brooks or Leary). Also, any chance with Deion Colzie?

AS: Florida is likely done at receiver barring someone leaving the class. Florida will continue to keep in contact with guys like Jacury Brooks and Christian Leary but not much of a shot with them. Colzie is likely going back to Notre Dame.

Dhainer24: Love the talent this staff is bringing in. Just seems like we are always settling for lesser known guys on the OL (stealing Braun from the leg humpers excluded) and I don’t want to become FSU. I know the recruiting services aren’t perfect and OL is probably a position where they are wrong the most, but I would still like to see some true blue chip OL in Gator uniforms.

For the class of 2021, we need to hope some of those guys are diamonds in the rough, but for the Class of 2022, I feel we need to get in early on some top guys. Here are some top 300 OL from Florida or surrounding states:
Dayne Shor – IMG
Trent Ramsey – Tarpon Springs
Julian Armella – Miami
Tyler Booker – IMG
Addison Nichols – Norcross, GA
Have we made contact with these guys?
Are any of them showing interest?

AS: Florida has offered Shor, Armella, Nichols and Booker already. Florida has the best shot with Booker at the moment but guys like Nichols and Shor say they will visit Gainesvilel when the are allowed.

G8trGr8t: Is anybody doing anything informally to get guys to campus like UGA does?

AS: It has to be organized by the recruits themselves as the coaches are not allowed to talk to the guys but Florida did have a few guys like Donovan McMillon visit Florida this summer. I think you will see a few more guys visit this fall like that.

Pan: How solid are all the commits and the class overall. Is everyone locked in and wanting to be Gators?

AS: Tyreak Sapp and Chief Borders are the two guys that have said they will still take visits but Borders is seems pretty solid with the Gators despite a push from Stanford. Besides those two, the Gators have a pretty solid list of commits for 2021.

Cbcoakley: Any folks committed elsewhere that we are still pushing hard for?

AS: Florida is still recruiting Auburn offensive line commit Caleb Johnson and Johnson is likely to take an official visit to Florida. Miami defensive tackle commit Leonard Taylor is another guy that Florida isn’t giving up and they’re still talking with his teammate and fellow Miami commit Brashard Smith.

G8rmann: How are the 5 or 6 guys on our board for 2021 trending?

AS: Here are the top guys remaining on the board for me. Xavian Sorey and he’s still a UF/UGA battle. Florida is doing a good job of recruiting him. Terrion Arnold is an UF/Alabama battle at the moment. Tunmise Adeleye is a UF/Alabama battle with Texas A&M running in third. Bryce Langston is a UF/LSU battle with Florida running out in front here. Yousef Mugharbill is the big name offensive lineman remaining on the board and Florida has really jumped back into the mix lately and the Gators are trending up here. Jeremiah Williams will announce in October and right now I have pinned to Auburn.

Johnagator: Will there be an early signing date this year?

AS: Right now, the plan is to have an early signing day as many guys are planning to enroll early and I think the number could be even higher this year than past year’s. We will see going forward if they make any adjustments to the calendar since the dead period will run through January 1st.
