Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: September 19th edition

The Florida Gators recruiting efforts have been going strong over the last month, as the Gators will take that momentum into the 2019 season.

Gator Country’s members have a lot of questions about how the 2020 class will shake out and who are the top prospects that the Gators are still after.

We answer your questions in this week’s Florida Gators recruiting mailbag.

Well let’s dive right in to this week’s recruiting mailbag:

BCNGator99: Do you see Leonard Manuel remaining in the class?

AS: Manuel has some work to do off the field in order to remain in the class but he says he’s visiting Gainesville this weekend so this will be a chance for the staff to talk to him. Right now things have to be handled off the field first.

DC32014: Do you see Florida pursuing Charles Moore?

AS: I don’t see Florida going that route after he finishes JUCO ball.

Macbgator: Who are we expecting to sign in the early period??

AS: Florida will try to get all of their commits to sign early and top targets like Henry Gray, Issiah Walker, Marcus Dumervil, Demarkcus Bowman and Donell Harris are all guys expected to sign early.

Macbgator: What names are left on our offensive line board??

AS: Issiah Walker, Marcus Dumervil, Aaryn Parks and Tennessee commit James Robinson are all guys that Florida is actively recruiting.

SVSqueek7: In light of Franks injury, will we be looking to take another signal caller in this class?

AS: Right now, I lean towards them not taking a second quarterback in the class.

Gatorboy08: Do you see the staff expanding the WR board? If so, who are some likely candidates the Gators might pursue?

AS: Bryan Robinson from Palm Beach Central is scheduled to visit this weekend and he’s a guy that Florida is trying to gain momentum with. Outside of him, there are a few guys that Florida is monitoring in case they want to expand the board even more.

Gatorboy08: How many more DBs are going to be in the class and who are the remaining targets there?

AS: Right now I expect 2-3 more defensive backs in the class and they would love to have two more safeties in the class. These are the remaining top targets, Henry Gray who visits this weekend, Oregon commit Avantae Williams, Jahquez Robinson, Kendall Dennis and Texas commit Ethan Pouncey

Edwinvincent: Are we speaking to any JUCO players? Anyone close to making a commitment?

AS: Right now the only JUCO player with an offer that Florida is talking with is WR Omar Manning but I think that could expand more as the season goes on. As far as anyone close to a commitment, Issiah Walker says he’s close to making a decision but he hasn’t set a date yet.

NapaGator: Do Dan Mullen and Scott Stricklin recognizes our recruiting struggles and what, aside from the recent support staff changes, do they intend to do differently for the 2021 class?

AS: The new football facility will be getting started up next year and they believe that will help but besides that Mullen feels good on where things are headed. The new support staff is something he wanted to take care of and he did that this offseason.

UFMBA14: One of the refrains right now on the O-line is that Mullen is having to do it with Mac’s guys. How long until we’ll be playing with a line of only Mullen’s guys? (The built in question there I guess is what players that we signed last cycle can start next year plus which players, if any, from this upcoming cycle will be good to start day 1)

AS: Chris Bleich is already playing and Hevesy is high on Michael Tarquin and Ethan White from last year’s class. Issiah Walker and Marcus Dumervil are both guys that could come in and compete for playing time if they were to choose Florida.

Gatorific: Is the staff still talking to Joshua Bruan and is he listening?

AS: Braun has stated that he’s solid to Georgia. Florida still sends him mail and such but he’s headed to Athens at this time.

Dhainer24: I see that a punter from Australia is visiting. It got me thinking. I thought we got our replacement for Townsend last cycle when Jack Brady signed as a PWO. I remember that he announced it on Twitter and it was shared on this site, and he was supposedly the best P in Florida last year. Now, I don’t even see him on the roster. Did something happen?

AS: That’s honestly something I need to check on as at last check Brady was coming to Florida. Brady is a good punter so as soon as I find out the answer, I will post what I find out.

74gator: Are the Gators ACTIVELY recruiting these kids from S Fl? Has any of them visited UF in the last months?

James Williams
Damion Alford
Romelo Brinson
Marcus Tate

AS: Yes, Florida is recruiting all of those guys and all of them except for Tate have visited Florida. The Gators have work to do with all four but they’re listening and have interest in Florida.
