Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: October 8th edition

The Florida Gators have started the year 2-0 and that has helped the Florida Gators coaching staff in recruiting with the dead period ongoing and no on campus visits being able to take place.

Dan Mullen and the coaching staff have a few more spots remaining in the class as they look to finish off on some needs in the class.

GatorCountry brings you a recruiting mailbag to answer your questions on the 2021 class as well as the 2022 class.

Check out the mailbag here to get all the answers to your questions.

Gatorboy08: It seems like we are really trending for some top quarterbacks in next years class. Could we get an update on where we stand with guys like Jacurri Brown, MJ Morris, Ty Simpson, and Braden Davis? Could we end up taking 2 QBs next year as well? As always thanks in advance.

AS: First, I don’t see Florida taking two quarterbacks next year unless someone leaves unexpectedly. Brown is still trending towards Florida at the moment and Morris and Simpson still talk to the Gators a lot and I would say the relationship between UF and Morris continues to improve.

Polkgator: With Bowman in the fold, how many running backs do we take next year? Who would be a leading candidate as of now if we take 1 or 2 more?

AS: I believe they will take just one running back next year and some of the top guys are Terrance Gibbs, George Pettaway, Jamie Felix and Damari Alston are all guys that talk UF a lot and have interest.

Macbgator: Will we sign another defensive tackle, appears we have lost some depth with Campbell and Conliffe gone or not playing??

AS: Tunmise Adeleye is the Gators top remaining target at defensive tackle and he’s someone that can be a huge difference maker for Florida. Florida is battling Texas A&M and Alabama.

Macbgator: Any more possible transfers we might get or are looking at??

AS: Right now I don’t see anymore transfers happening until at least after the season. As we’ve seen in the past Dan Mullen is very active with the transfer portal so it wouldn’t shock me if they added more this offseason.

Graylon: Where do we stand with Destyn Hill the receiver out of Louisiana?

AS: Hill has recently started talking to Florida a lot more and his interest in Florida State has cooled some with their poor start to the season. Hill is someone that the Gators really like and are recruiting and have stayed in touch with.

Saintauggator: Arch Manning. Will we pursue? Trask is showing a QB like him can do extremely well under Mullen

AS: They will pursue him and recruit him but a Manning in Gainesville? I just don’t see that happening.

Liveoak1: How does it look for Sapp staying in the class ?

AS: Sapp continues to say the right things about staying in the class but also continues to talk to Miami. If a guy like Adeleye joins the class then I think things will get even more interesting with Sapp. Right now I would say odds are that ends up at Miami but Florida is trying to get him in the class.

StuckUpNorthGator: How does the addition of Bowman affect running back recruiting this year?

AS: Florida wasn’t planning on taking a running back in this class so with Bowman joining the class, it really doesn’t change much except Florida now has a back in the 2021 class.

Stan05: With LB Jeremiah Williams delaying his decision, how well do you think this bodes for us? Also, who is his main recruiter to UF?

AS: Christian Robinson is the main recruiter of Williams and I think it definitely helps Florida as it looked like he was about to pick Auburn. Williams has always liked Florida but getting his family comfortable with the Gators has been the key since they haven’t been able to visit Gainesville yet. The key is to get his family comfortable with the distance from home.

Polkgator: Any word on how the freshman DB’s are developing? (Helm, Rodgers, Graham, Wilcoxson, McDaniel)
Thanks in advance.

AS: Avery Helm and Jahari Rogers are competing and have impressed the coaches with how quick they’ve picked things up but they’re still adjusting to the speed of the college game. Graham was doing well before being injured. Wilcoxson physically has impressed guys but is still picking up things as far as the playbook goes. I haven’t heard much on McDaniel besides he was getting adjusted to the college speed.

Ufgatordad: Seems like we’ve been getting quite a bit of recognition from Tunmise lately. Would you say we still lead for him?

AS: Yes, I think Florida has a slight edge over Alabama and Texas A&M at this time.

Ufgatordad: Would you be shocked if Sam McCall doesn’t pick us this month?

AS: I really like Florida’s chances with McCall heading into his decision as he says he talks to UF and FSU the most with Alabama only a little bit now. I think the Gators beat out FSU.

Ufgatordad: Are we leading for Arnold, Langston, and Sorey, or what other programs would you say are ahead of us for those guys?

AS: Florida is in good shape with Arnold and Langston but have Alabama and UGA battling them for Arnold and LSU battling them for Langston. With Sorey, I don’t think anyone truly leads for him as Georgia is right there and Alabama is staying in the mix.
