Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: October 25th edition

The Florida Gators recruiting efforts picked up some major momentum in recruiting over the last month heading into the big game against Georgia on Saturday.

The Gators will have the chance on Saturday to show the nation how improved they’re under Dan Mullen and his coaching staff.

Gator Country’s members have a lot of questions about how the 2019 class will shake out and who are the top prospects that the Gators are still after.

We answer your questions in this week’s Florida Gators recruiting mailbag.

Well let’s dive right in to this week’s recruiting mailbag:

MrB-Gator: Do you think Kaiir Elam is in this class?

AS: It’s very tight between Florida and Georgia for Elam right now, I think Florida has a 50/50 shot but I don’t think he’s truly leaning either way right now.

Airrailey: Another outlet is saying Miami has taken over the lead for Zipperrer and Florida really needs him to put off his decision. Do you see it the same way?

AS: Florida is still in good shape for Keon Zipperer and Lloyd Summerall at this time. The Miami stuff is just smoke from everything I’ve heard.

Thoover: What are our chances of landing Chris Steele and Kaiir Elam?

AS: I really like Florida’s chances with Chris Steele at this time and Elam is 50/50 with Georgia in the mix. Florida has done a really good job in recruiting Steele.

Ufgatordad: With potentially our top 2 offensive targets trending away in Sanders and Higgins, how do you feel about our chances of landing a really solid offensive class still? Whose at the top of the board at both of those positions, Wright and Jones? Do you see us potentially getting in the mix for any other high end offensive recruits, or is the board just about set at this point? Thanks!

AS: Wright and TJ Jones would be the top guys on the board at those positions and the Gators would love to have Nay’Quan Wright in the class. At receiver the Gators are still working on some guys and trying to see if they have interest in them before moving on.

Irgator12: So if we beat UGA this weekend, we can have anyone we want right?

AS: If only it was that easy, but in reality it would definitely help the Gators from a national perspective to beat Georgia.

Ufgator84: Do you feel good or great about Nay’Quan Wright, as it seems Sanders may go to Bama or Texas?

AS: I feel good about Florida’s chances with Nay’Quan Wright at this time.

Ufgators84: any new developments at offensive line or defensive tackle?

AS: Nothing new on the defensive line but Florida continues to push to get guys like Evan Neal and Keiondre Jones on campus and are recruiting Kamaar Bell hard as he named the Gators his leader after the LSU game.

Pan: Ohio State has a good class started. Have or will the doubts about their future affect this recruiting class and if so might that benefit us in anyway?

AS: I think they’re all keeping a close eye on things from what I’ve been told but most guys are sticking with Ohio State at this time. If something changes with Urban than that’s when you will see a mass exit.

Gatordon: ho are the most likely recruits the Gators could flip? Which of our verbal commits are not solid in their commitment?

AS: Florida is recruiting Auburn commits Jaren Handy and Keiondre Jones and both guys are likely to take visits to Gainesville this year with Jones already using his official to Florida. Also you have to watch Alabama commits Justin Eboigbe and Byron Young because both guys are talking to Florida a lot. Also Mississippi State commit Nathan Pickering is still talking to Florida.

Of Florida’s commits, Tyron Hooper is the guy that is taking visits and will be one to monitor down the stretch.

UFMBA14: What’s your gut telling you about signing day in regards to our high (top 10 class I’d say) expectations and how it turns out? Will be overjoyed? Happy/content? Disappointed?

AS: I think they can be top 10 if the pieces fall like they can. I think overall most people will be happy with the pieces that Florida’s add to the class and there’s a chance that you could be overjoyed if a few pieces fall Florida’s way.

Blake_usmc: JD Bertrand still looking out way?

AS: Florida and Notre Dame have both hosted Bertrand on visits since he left the Georgia class. The Gators are definitely a team to watch for Bertrand as he has a close relationship with Christian Robinson and Florida stayed on him hard despite his commitment to Georgia.

Blake_usmc: As well, I know Will Putnam had some chatter with Florida, did anything come from that? I really like this kid

AS: Nothing yet, Putnam was trying to set up a visit but nothing has been set up yet. Auburn and Florida State look to be the teams to beat for Putnam.

KHC_DAD: Are we still recruiting Jordan Battle? I could see if anything comes from this Urban Meyer stuff at OSU, him looking our way.

AS: Yes, but many believe Miami will be the team to flip him from Ohio State if anyone does. However Florida will likely get an official visit and that could change things.

Jump_pass: With Braylen Ingraham committing to Bama, does that help UF in swaying Justin Eboigbe?

AS: Florida was one of a few schools that were in contact with Eboigbe on Tuesday night. Florida is still working on him and fellow Alabama commit Byron Young.

Gatoronenemyturf: Any of our recruits / targets that you are aware of planning to be in Jax Saturday for the game ?

AS: Kaiir Elam and his father may attend the game but recruits have to attend the game on their own dime since both teams agreed not to host recruits.
