Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: October 22nd edition

The Florida Gators are going through their bye week now after the Missouri game was pushed back to the positive COVID test so the staff has been able to interact with recruits more during this downtime.

Dan Mullen and the coaching staff have a few more spots remaining in the class as they look to finish off on some needs in the class.

GatorCountry brings you a recruiting mailbag to answer your questions on the 2021 class as well as the 2022 class.

Check out the mailbag here to get all the answers to your questions.

Graylon: Do you believe as bad as our defensive scheme is its scaring away some of the top linebackers, DT’s, and corners and safety?

AS: No, I don’t think that’s the case at all. Recruits believe they can be the difference maker and help improve the defense. The coaching staff has done a good job of showing these guys just how they will fit into the defense at Florida.

Pan: What’s the pulse

AS: The pulse is still very positive overall as guys are excited about the future of the program and they like what they’ve seen from the offense and they see opportunities on the defensive side of the ball. The Gators continue to sit in good shape for a strong finish.

Gatorboy08: What are your thoughts on how the current LB board may shift out? We have two solid guys with Borders and Black. But it seems like there’s a decent shot with Williams and Sorey as well. Do you see Florida signing all 4 prospects? If not, what’s your prediction, as of today, on how things may end up at LB? Thanks as always.

AS: Right now Florida is a good shot with both Jeremiah Williams and Xavian Sorey at this time but it’s really close for both. Georgia is right there with Florida for Sorey and Auburn with Williams. The Gators would love to sign all four of those guys to add depth at the position.

Macbgator: Will we take 2 OL if they are available?

AS: Right now, I believe they will take just one more offensive linemen unless one of the big names decided they wanted to flip to Florida but at this time nobody is really standing out to do that. Yousef Mugarbill is the top remaining target.

Bigmike64: We obviously need help on the D Line. Does this help with our targets believing they could play immediately?

AS: Recruits definitely see playing time even more now and that does help with two big remaining targets Tunmise and Bryce Langston but to be honest recruits always believe they can come in and play early so it isn’t a huge change in their recruitment.

Acewade1: I’ve heard that Florida wants both Xavian Sorey and Jeremiah Williams. Do you feel like they will take both of them?

AS: Florida would absolutely take both of those guys as they’re trying their best to add depth at the position and they both add something different to the team. Sorey can play all over and Williams is a really good outside linebacker/pass rusher.

Nickelgators: Do you feel we need to replace the defensive co ordinator now or when the season is over? Do you think Mullen will make the change and who is going to be the choices?

AS: I don’t think a change right now would do anything for the team as they aren’t going to change schemes in the middle of the year so my opinion has been to wait and see how the rest of the year goes before any decision is made. I do think if the season continues down the road that Mullen will have a decision to make.

HisDoc: It seems many folks feel pretty good about our chances with Adeleye, J. Williams, Arnold and Sorey. And nearly everyone thinks Mugharbil is ours if we want him.

I realize we won’t get all 5 of the above. But I thought the general consensus was that we cannot take more than two more without losing/processing others in the class. Yet it would be hard to say no to any of these top four guys.

Am I missing something? Or is the most likely scenario that we’ll only get 2-3 of the above and possibly “lose” one or more current commits?

AS: I’ve always been told that the number work themselves out and they always do but a guy or two would have to be told to look around if they were to go 5-5 because they simply don’t have the number currently to take all five. That’s a good problem to have though because that would be an excellent finish.

UFPJR: Any update on that kid Hill kid from Louisiana? The WR

AS: Destyn is still talking to Florida and the Gators are still recruiting him hard but honestly that’s about it at this time. Right now I don’t see him at Florida but I do know that the staff wants him and he’s listening now more than ever.
