Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: October 17th edition

The Florida Gators recruiting efforts have been going strong over the last month, as the Gators will take that momentum into the second half of the 2019 season.

Gator Country’s members have a lot of questions about how the 2020 class will shake out and who are the top prospects that the Gators are still after.

We answer your questions in this week’s Florida Gators recruiting mailbag.

Well let’s dive right in to this week’s recruiting mailbag:

Gatorfantone247: Who do you think our next commitment will be and when?

AS: Hard to say right now as none of the targets have set official decision dates at this time.

MrB-Gator: Do we take any Juco’s or grad transfers (like Reese’s brother at MSU)?

AS: I expect Florida to try for a grad transfer or two especially on the offensive line and maybe at defensive back. Stewart Reese is someone to keep an eye on because of his relationship with the coaching staff from their time at Mississippi State.

Chuck_lopez: How are things looking for Dumervil? Do you think winning the Cocktail Party might push him our way?

AS: Florida and LSU are neck and neck for Marcus Dumervil right now and both teams are trying to get him on campus for unofficial visits. A win in Jacksonville would be big but at the same time LSU keeps winning as well.

Edwinvincent: Are we able to take 28 this cycle?

AS: Florida could take up to 28 but Mullen will only take that number if they’re the right 28 guys. Mullen isn’t going to take 28 guys just to take them.

Juggernautz: Anything new on the RB front?

AS: Nothing new on the running back front, Florida is still trying to get Jahmyr Gibbs and Henry Parrish on campus in hopes of gaining some momentum with either one of those guys.

Shade45: Any FSU recruits we might be able to get from their commit list?

AS: Demorie Tate and Lawrance Toafili are two guys that the Gators wanted and they still want. Right now they don’t have any traction with those guys but they’re still communicating with them.

StuckUpNorthGator: It seems like we gained more respect in a loss than did from our wins. Does the way The Gators played against LSU hold the same weight with recruits?

AS: Recruits have been high on Florida for most of the year especially after the win over Miami since it was on national TV. Florida has recruits attention but they just need some of those guys to pull the trigger and commit.

IamBornAGator: Are there concerns we might have sudden depth problems at QB? Franks may go pro EJ may transfer if Trask is entrenched as the starter, we lost Jones from the most recent class. Under that scenario we have Trask and true freshman Anthony Richardson. Would those concerns open another slot for QB and if so would they seek transfer who be an upperclassman or even a grad transfer.

AS: There’s a concern and it could force Florida to sign another quarterback whether that be through the JUCO ranks or a transfer. Florida will not go into next year with just Trask and Richardson at quarterback. I don’t expect Emory Jones to go anywhere but if he did than Mullen would react and sign another quarterback.

Bellsmyg8orade: Any explanation as to why we are behind FSU and UM in 2020?

AS: Florida is ahead of Miami but the Gators also have four less commits than Miami and two less than Florida State so that’s the biggest reason. Florida has a higher star average than both programs at this time.

Pan: Status updates on Richardson’s injury?

AS: Richardson isn’t out for the year and there’s hope that he could play this week or next week. After he had x-rays, it revealed that it wasn’t as bad as feared.

Sflagator: Biggest likely recruits left for us?

AS: I like where Florida stands with Alabama defensive line commit Tim Smith and he would fill a huge need at defensive tackle for the Gators. The Gators desperately need a few instant impact guys at defensive tackle.

OklahomaGator: How many OL do you think we sign this year? When is early signing day?

AS: December 18th is the early signing day this year. As far as offensive line goes, I believe Florida wants one more to go with Issiah Walker, Jovens Janvier, Richie Leonard and Gerald Mincey. They want that to be a tackle as well.
