Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: October 15th edition

The Florida Gators suffered their first loss last Saturday to move them 2-1 on the year as the defense continued to struggle on the year because recruits are still believing in this Gators team.

Dan Mullen and the coaching staff have a few more spots remaining in the class as they look to finish off on some needs in the class.

GatorCountry brings you a recruiting mailbag to answer your questions on the 2021 class as well as the 2022 class.

Check out the mailbag here to get all the answers to your questions.

Juggernautz: Who do you think will fill the remaining 2021 slots?

AS: I think the slots will be filled out of these guys, Tunmise Adeleye, Xavian Sorey, Jeremiah Williams, Yousef Mugharbil, Terrion Arnold, Caleb Johnson and Bryce Langston. Right now I like Florida’s chance with Langston, Mugharbil, Adeleye and Arnold. Sorey has Florida and Georgia even in his recruitment right now.

74gator: Are we recruiting other QBs for 2022? Gavin Wimsatt or Braden Davis?

AS: Florida keeps in touch with those guys and they’re recruiting Jacurri Brown, MJ Morris, Nicco Marchiol and Ty Simpson hard. Right now I really like Florida’s chances with Brown but the Gators are trending up for Morris as well.

GatorteachUF: There is some buzz that Maason Smith is getting closer to UF coaches. He included us in his top 5. Any real shot?

AS: Right now I have Florida in third behind LSU and Alabama but I do know that Florida has been recruiting him hard and are trending up for him because of his relationship with the staff. The Gators still have work to do but the communication has improved for sure.

Gator_nica: Who are the top recruits in the 2022 class in Florida, and how do we look for them?

AS: Running back Terrance Gibbs, receiver Amarion Brown, receiver Syveion Ellis, linemen Tyler Booker and Julian Armella, defensive ends Dante Anderson, Francois Nolton and Shemar Stewart. Sam McCall, safety Jyvonte McClendon defensive back Jaheim Singletary are a few of the big names in the state next year. Florida has landed Ellis’ commitment already and are great shape for McCall and McClendon as well as Nolton. Singletary is a guy that Florida and Georgia will battle for.

Stan05: With the country situation in our country, how are the coaches able to evaluate recruits for the upcoming cycles? Are they just using the old school approach with just watching game film or some other kind of method?

AS: Old school method of watching film and evaluating that as much as you can, the coaches are able to watch the whole game so that helps them a lot. The staff also talks to the coaches who play him and coach him. You rely on relationships during this time for sure.

Pan: What position is Juco signee Duwon Black going to play? If not middle linebacker, do we have a middle linebacker in the 21’ class. Or 22’ class we are in good shape for.

AS: Florida is recruiting Black to play outside linebacker and some safety on defense. Right now Florida doesn’t have a middle linebacker in the class and honestly aren’t recruiting a true middle linebacker for the class. Xavian Sorey is more of an outside backer. In the 2022 class, the Gators also do not have any true inside linebacker targets at this time.
