Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: November 14th edition

The Florida Gators recruiting efforts have been going strong over the last month, as the Gators will take that momentum into the final two games of 2019.

Gator Country’s members have a lot of questions about how the 2020 class will shake out and who are the top prospects that the Gators are still after.

We answer your questions in this week’s Florida Gators recruiting mailbag.

Well let’s dive right in to this week’s recruiting mailbag:

ThePlayer: Is DB Ethan Pouncey a remote possibility since de-committing from Texas?

AS: Auburn looks to be the team to beat here as his brother is also looking at Auburn as well.

Gatorboy08: What does the DE board look like? Any more updates on how we look for Beckwith?

AS: Morven Joseph and Donell Harris are the two main targets at defensive end remaining. Despite Harris committing to Texas A&M, he still plans to take an official to Florida after the season. Florida is still in good shape with Dee Beckwith and he hasn’t taken any visits since he visited Gainesville.

UFMBA14: Any updates on RB board? Sounded like we would take Knighton but maybe now he isn’t even in our top 3?

AS: Florida had good visits with Jaylan Knighton and Joquavion Marks this past weekend and they would be happy with either of them. They’re still in the mix for Jahmyr Gibbs who plans to visit for the FSU game and EJ Smith is still in play but his recruitment will likely go the distance so Florida may have to make a decision before he’s ready to announce.

GatorSAK: I’m going to be the guy to ask and I’m sorry in advance but what’s up with all this Demarcus Bowman talk is any of it true and do the gators have any chance with him at all?

AS: Bowman still talks to the staff yes but he still hasn’t visited and that’s something the staff needs him to do. Never say never in recruiting so while Florida’s chances are slim, there’s still a slim chance here.

Irgator12: Is Morven Joseph coming back, official visit scheduled for December.

AS: I like Florida’s chances to land Joseph, he’s still close with Todd Grantham and Gervon Dexter is still recruiting him hard. Joseph loved his visit to Florida for the Auburn game and him returning for an official visit is a great sign.

Ufgator84: What’s your guess at the DTs that Florida signs?

And……any secret scoop on Avantae Williams? The kid is a great athlete, but do the Puppies have their paw$ sunk in to deep?

AS: I still like Florida’s chances to sign Tim Smith and he would be the last defensive tackle in the class joining Dexter and Johnnie Brown in the class.

Florida and Georgia are still battling for Williams and now that his season is over, look for him to take more trips. Florida is trying to get him on an unofficial and then an official visit.

MrBGator: Do you think we get Stewart Reese as an OL grad transfer?

AS: If Reese decides to transfer then yes, Florida has a really good shot at landing him because of his familiarity with the staff and his brother playing for Florida.

Baileyboy1223: Hearing Tim Smith is locked in with bama are we still taking to Mba?

AS: Florida is still talking to Jeffrey Mba but he has some work to do in the classroom. As far as Smith goes, Florida is still in good shape with him despite what he says about his commitment to Bama. Smith has been a frequent visitor to Gainesville.

Augustagator63: How good of a prospect is Chief Borders? Will we get any early commits from elite 2021 prospects?

AS: Borders should be a four star prospect by the time he graduates and he’s someone that was high on Florida’s recruiting board heading into the year. As far as elite 2021 prospects, this spring is when some guys like Bryce Langston and Trevonte Rucker could announce decisions.

Macbgator: Are we taking 2 more OL and who are the candidates??

AS: Right now it looks like just one and Marcus Dumervil is still the top target but LSU is trending for him. Former Houston OL commit Kendal Septs is planning on visiting for the FSU game and he’s a new guy on the board but he’s more of a guard instead of tackle.

IAmBornAGator: Though not until class of 2022 QB Jacurri Brown seems to be a good fit for Mullen’s system with a little improvement in passing skills.

As a sophomore he has led Lowndes High to one sided victories over Miami Northwestern, then #1 AAAAAA Valdosta High, then #3 AAAAAAA Parkview, then #6 AAAAAAA Camden County and then #2 AAAAAAA Colquitt County.

Hevesy managed to get a verbal out of Lowndes CB Greg Reid back when Urban was here which after vetting him further UF chilled on him.

Are we following him?

AS: Yes, he’s someone that Florida knows about and I’m sure they will get out to watch him this spring. A lot of quarterback recruiting has to deal with the staff getting out and seeing these guys in person.

Bmfgator: Andrew, are you hearing anything on Dequan Stanley out of St. Augustine? Kids playing great at WR/CB/return. Scores multiple times per game. Has always focused on hoops until this year. Thanks

AS: I haven’t heard much from in regards to Florida recruiting him but I’ve heard about his season and he looks like a really good player.

UFGator402: As for a question: Do you think this class ends up in the top 10 when it’s all said and done?

AS: Top 10? Yes I think they’re in the top 10 and finish between 7-10 this year.
