Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: December 5th edition

The Florida Gators recruiting efforts have been going strong over the last month, as the Gators will take the momentum of the season into recruiting.

Gator Country’s members have a lot of questions about how the 2020 class will shake out and who are the top prospects that the Gators are still after.

We answer your questions in this week’s Florida Gators recruiting mailbag.

Well let’s dive right in to this week’s recruiting mailbag:

Irgator12: With Franks leaving, do we go after a transfer QB or is their another QB out there we are interested in? Or just stick with one QB for 2020?

AS: Everything I’ve been told is that Florida will stick with what they have unless something happens and the Gators suffer another transfer.

Shade45: How would you rank Parrish, Marks, Gibbs, E.Smith JR and Knighton talent wise? Which 2 do we have best chance of landing.

AS: Marks/Smith, Parrish/Gibbs and then Knighton. I’m still not sold that Florida will take two backs in the class due to the numbers crunch but if I had to pick two, I would say Marks and Gibbs right now.

Nickelgators: How do you feel about Marks and E. Smith Jr as the two running backs ?

AS: I just don’t see Smith being in the class, he likes Florida but just enough right now. I like Florida’s chances with Joquavious Marks heading into his official visit though.

Qu1ZE: How do we feel about the Alabama kid Dee Beckwith? He could be the best Kyle Pitts with his frame and catch radius. And he’s a Basketball player too

AS: Florida is the leader for Dee Beckwith but he doesn’t plan to sign early. Beckwith just visited Tennessee and he still says the Gators lead as he likes how the Gators use Pitts in the offense.

MrB-Gator: We have 4 OL commits now…how many more do we take?
Especially with the news that Wardrick Wilson will be here in January.

AS: Florida would like one more high school guy but right now I don’t see anyone signing with the Gators unless new names pop up on the board soon.

G8trGr8t: How many total can we sign?

Is there a way to appeal the initial counter for Steele and Jones? Has staff considered trying that to add 2 more to the number allowed?

AS: Florida can sign 27 total in this class. As far as an appeal goes, I don’t think you can appeal that as they signed with the Gators.

Jump_pass: Where do we project Wingo to play? ILB/MLB or OLB/Buck?

AS: Wingo says Florida wants him inside which is where I would play him as well. He’s very good up the middle in the run and the passing game.

Kappa02: Staff wise, do you think Mullen will make any changes to further improve recruiting? How many grad transfer OL might UF bring in?

AS: Right now, I don’t see any staff changes unless guys take other jobs and right now I haven’t heard about anyone looking around. As far as transfers on the offensive line, I know Florida would like to add one experienced guy to the class.

Akgator2003: Is there any chance we drop one or two current commits if dominos start falling our way with other guys? Not asking for names, just wonder if there is someone the staff has cooled on since they committed to us.

AS: Yes, there’s always that chance and like you say, it just depends on who else wants in as we get closer to early signing day.

Macbgator: Do we still take Smith, Lee,Pinder at DT if they want in??

AS: Yes, Florida would take all three as they want to load up at defensive tackle this year.

Wilbur11: Who do recruits think FSU is hiring as HC? Do they even care?

How is our momentum for the 2021 class? Are we making inroads with the in state high schools?

AS: Recruits that I’ve talked to say they don’t know which I think is pretty honest because I don’t think FSU really knows who they will get.

As far as 2021 guys go, Florida has some solid momentum for the class and they’re doing much better instate. I think next year’s class has top five potential.

OklahomaGator: Any interest in the OL guy from Ole Miss who entered the portal?

AS: I haven’t heard of any interest from Florida at this time. That could change but right now I say no interest.

Ufuvandugatcu: What does the WR Board look like… Henderson, Heath, Robinson, etc. Who do you like in this year’s class? Does taking Pouncey effect these three recruits chances of landing in this year’s class?

AS: Those three guys are at the top of the board. I think the Gators would love to get two of those guys but Kentron Poitier is also on the board if the Gators miss on any of those three guys. Florida is still trying to get Bryan Robinson on campus next weekend if that doesn’t happen then he can be counted out.

Jamiegator: Will CDM add more recruiting staff positions this off season?

AS: Yes, I expect him to continue to add guys off the field as he understands that the off the field staff is very important.

Ebuck11: Any concerns/truth over the gervon dexter uga meeting rumors?

Are we considering trying to get addazio, strong, etc…as analysts?

AS: Dexter will likely let them come in out of respect for them but I haven’t heard about any visit to Georgia for him. Dexter will visit Florida next weekend and that’s the last weekend before the early signing day.

As far as analyst, I don’t see Charlie Strong or Steve Addazio dropping that far. But I’m sure Florida would take either guys if they wanted.

Djohnston: What is your gut feeling on Darnell Washington?

AS: Right now, I have him going to Georgia.

Lammygator69: Are we going to move on from potential non-qualifiers? Seems to have really hurt us last year and the spots are pretty limited

AS: Florida is going to push to get those guys to sign in February so they have a better idea on if they qualify or not. Mullen understands that he can’t take those guys if they have no chance because they count against the numbers.
