Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: August 29th edition

The Florida Gators recruiting efforts have been going strong over the last month, as the Gators will take some big momentum into the 2019 season.

Gator Country’s members have a lot of questions about how the 2020 class will shake out and who are the top prospects that the Gators are still after.

We answer your questions in this week’s Florida Gators recruiting mailbag.

Well let’s dive right in to this week’s recruiting mailbag:

MrB-Gator: Who are the prospects left at RB?

AS: Florida is still talking to Demarkcus Bowman, Keyvone Lee, Don Chaney, Mecose Todd and EJ Smith. The staff doesn’t feel as if they have to have a running back in this year’s class but they would like one.

BCNGator99: Outside of Wilson and Dumervile, who are the other OT’s the staff is staying in touch with?

AS: Aaryn Parks out of Maryland is really the other lineman that the Gators are in constant communication with. If the Gators start to feel less than great about their chances with either of those guys then I expect the board to expand.

Airrailey: Biggest issue I see is that of the top 15 kids (based on TOS rankings) in the State, only Wingo is a Gator. Clearly we are still recruiting Williams, Smith, Chaney and Bowman hard, but what are the odds of us flipping a few and taking back control of the State?

AS: I could see a few guys flipping and the Gators are talking to a lot of those guys. Guys like Jahquez Robinson and Tim Smith have visited Gainesville since committing elsewhere. Gaining back control of the state is something Mullen and his staff are aware of.

Gator_n_Bmore: In regards to Keyvone Lee.. why would the staff have taken his commitment in the first place if they didn’t like him at RB?
Did he change as a player all the sudden? Did they sour bc of the de-commitment?

AS: It was McElwain’s staff that first took Lee’s commitment and after that Mullen’s staff had some question on where he would be best at in college so that was the hold-up on him.

Macbgator: What recruits are on our board for DB and Safety???

AS: Jahquez Robinson, Henry Gray, Avantae Williams, Ladarius Tennison and Kendall Dennis are all on the board still and all have said they plan to visit Gainesville this fall.

Jw9156: Excluding coaches what would our recruiting “office / department” organization look like. For example who are the leaders and support staff. Numbers of folks, responsibilities in general.

AS: Florida hasn’t designated a head of recruiting per say but they have definitely added a lot more staff members to the recruiting department. Someone like Chase Clark has experience leading the room so he could vary well be the lead guy there. But you have guys like Keiwan Ratliff and Jamar Chaney who’re doing well in the department as well.

Ufgatordad: What’s it going to take to overtake Auburn for Tennison? An other players ahead of us?

AS: Auburn is Florida’s biggest competition and right now Tennison is waiting to see how the 2019 season plays out. If Florida get him on campus some and beat Auburn in October that could definitely help Florida’s chances. There’s still a long ways to go in his recruitment.

Ufgatordad: Do you see Jahquez Robinson and Tim Smith in this class when all is said and done?

AS: Florida is trending up with both guys right now but it’s a little to early to say for sure on either guy. The Gators need to continue to get both guys on campus this summer but both guys are listening and talking to the staff a lot.

Gatorfantone247: Did the Game help us with any other recruits besides for walker? If so, who?

AS: I don’t think it particularly helped with one recruit more than another but several underclassmen took notice of the win and the fan base in general. I don’t think this game will be the deciding factor for any recruit though.

Gatorfantone247: There where some rumors going around that former 2021 comitt Terrance lewis is wanting back into. The Gators class? Any truth to that? And how solid is tyreak sapp to us right now?

AS: Lewis is still talking to Florida and likes the Gators a lot but he isn’t close to making a final decision yet. And Sapp says he’s very solid with his commitment to Florida and he hasn’t visited anyone else since committing to Florida.

Gatorfantone247: U.g.a fans are starting claim that they have Gervon Dexter Flipping to them 100% happening can you go ahead in to this non sense please! So Gator nation can just relaxxx!

AS: As of right now I like Florida’s chances of hanging on to Dexter and the commit says he doesn’t plan to visit Athens again. Until Dexter visits them again, the Gators should feel good about their chacnes.

Gatorfantone247: As of now to you see Xavier Henderson choosing our Gators?

AS: Florida and Clemson are battling it out here but the longer this goes on, the better I like Florida’s chances. Henderson will visit Florida a lot this fall and that should help the Gators chances.
