Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: April 28th edition

The Florida Gators are finished with spring practice and have now turned their attention to recruiting, as they will host guys on virtual visits until the dead period is lifted.

The dead period will end in June and the Gators have already loaded up the first weekend of the month with several official visitors.

GatorCountry brings you a recruiting mailbag to answer your questions on the 2022 class as well as the 2023 class.

Check out the mailbag here to get all the answers to your questions.

Macbgator: Who are we recruiting for the OL and DL?

AS: On the offensive line, Tyler Booker (Florida lean), Julian Armella (Florida trailing), Qae’shon Sapp who plans to visit twice in June, and Addison Nichols who also visits in June. On the defensive line Enai White (visits in June), Jamaal Whyce, Chris McClellan, Jamari Lyons, Daniel Lyons, and Nyjalik Kelly.

Ufgator84: Who’s on the board at safety after Donaldson? Even if he signs, if he tries to play basketball that’s gonna take away practice and learning time from football.

AS: Florida is still going after Markeith Williams, Devin Moore, and Azareyeh Thomas right now. Thomas is a guy that Florida has a really good shot with and Moore is close with Montinar but wants to take visits before deciding. The safety board is one to watch for sure after Jacoby Matthews picked LSU.

Ufgator84: What’s your guess as to who the Gators wind up with at RB? Gibbs’ injury worries me.

AS: Terrance Gibbs is a guy that I think the Gators are in really good shape for heading into his official visit. Damari Alston is another guy to watch as he will visit campus for the first time in June but Ohio State and Georgia Tech are ahead of the Gators for him. Kaytron Allen is another guy to keep a close eye on as he will visit in June and likes the Gators a lot.

Gatorboy08: How are we looking for the top WRs on the Board? Do we actually have a good shot with Stewart?

AS: Evan Stewart is very close to Nick Evers and will visit Florida in June but the biggest thing for Florida will be getting Stewart back on campus again in the fall. Gentry Williams is another top receiver and the same thing is true for him, he’s close with Evers but Oklahoma is high up there as well and will get him on campus after Florida. Isaiah Horton is a guy that likes Florida a lot and the Gators are battling Alabama for him heading into visits. Jayden Gibson is the guy that Florida has the best chance with right now but he wants to visits before deciding.

Gatorboy08: Also, can we expect an offensive commit from one of our top targets soon? Such as Booker or Skinner? It’d be really nice to get a top ranked guy early to try and help recruit some others.

AS: I think you will see some movement in June after guys take official visits and I think you could see a commit after the first weekend when several offensive guys visit campus. As far as Tyler Booker and Jaleel Skinner, I don’t think either of those guys commit until after they’ve taken several visits.

Liveoak1: How are the two new secondary coaches doing so far on the recruiting trail ?

AS: Both Wesley McGriff and Jules Montinar have built a lot of relationships with guys already and prospects speak highly of them but the true test for these guys will be when prospects get on campus and the coaches have a chance to get a commitment from prospects. McGriff has a history at Auburn of landing top rated prospects so you feel pretty good about him continuing to do that.

Gatorteachuf: I cannot imagine that this happens but what are the chances of pairing Booker and Armella? I would be shocked to get one of them but any chance on both? Having watched some of the OL v DL camp vidoes, Armella seems to play angry and has that nasty OL attitude.

AS: Julian Armella is saying the right things about his interest in Florida and I do know he has interest but right now I would say he doesn’t sign with Florida. Several other teams are ahead of the Gators right now but the Gators will get a chance to impress the offensive lineman when he visits Gainesville. I like Florida’s chances with Tyler Booker right now so getting 1 out 2 looks promising.
