Florida Gators recruiting after several early enrollees

The Florida Gators will play in Atlanta this coming Saturday which means instead of being out on the road recruiting they will be game planning for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

This is a great situation for the Gators as not only are they competing for a SEC Championship, they also get a chance to be on national T.V. and get that exposure for the program.

Next week when the Florida coaching staff does get on the road for recruiting they will have several guys that they hit early on in the week due to them being early enrollees. The weekend of December 10th will be the last weekend for schools to host prospects on official visits so the Gators will be trying to secure some last minutes visits and in-home visits for those early enrollees.

Gator Country breaks down the guys that are trying to early enroll in school next month. We will start with the commits

Commits

Athlete Kadarius Toney- Toney is a tremendous athlete that put up over 3,000 yards of total offense this year. Toney is a guy that you can line up anywhere on the offensive side of the ball and he will make plays. The Gators have fended off Auburn, Alabama, and others to keep Toney’s commitment. Toney is scheduled to officially visit Florida soon but will not be able to on the weekend of December 10th due to the Alabama/Mississippi All-Star game.

Tight end Kemore Gamble- Gamble is very solid in his commitment to Florida. Gamble hasn’t visited anyone but Florida since he committed. Gamble has had a solid senior year and should contribute as a freshman.

Defensive back Shawn Davis- Davis is a physical corner who can play corner or safety at the next level. Davis needs to add more weight but once he does then he should be able to at least contribute some as a freshman.

JUCO defensive tackle Javier Edwards- Edwards is the least solid of this group as he’s visiting Arkansas and Colorado this month after visiting the Gators. Edwards says he has a final decision to make in December and the Gators desperately need to hold onto him because he plays next season. The Gators biggest threat is Arkansas but many feel Florida will hold onto the big man.

Linebacker James Houston- Houston tore his ACL before his senior year but his progressing well and the hope is that once he gets onto campus it will heal even quicker. Houston will likely be limited in the spring but should be healed properly by fall camp. Houston flirted with Wisconsin but the Gators won out.

Targets

Receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones- Peoples-Jones took an official visit to Florida for the South Carolina game it went really good with it being his first visit for an actual game. Right now it seems like it’s a Michigan/Ohio State battle because of distance from home.

Offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood-Leatherwood plans to visit the Gators on the December 10th weekend as he continues to flirt with Florida. The Gators are selling early playing time to Leatherwood and he’s listening. Leatherwood sees the early playing time and knows he plays quicker at Florida.

Offensive lineman Navaughn Donaldson- Florida and Florida State are battling to flip Donaldson from Miami. Right now it looks like Florida State is the team that has the best chance at flipping him due to his mom preferring the Noles. The Gators will go in-home with Donaldson next week in hopes of flipping the big lineman.

Defensive back Shaun Wade- Most people have ruled Florida out for Wade but that was done too soon. Running backs coach Tim Skipper has put the Gators in legit position with Wade and the Ohio State commit plans to take an official visit to Florida soon. The Gators will also go in-home with Wade and his parents.

Linebacker Anthony Hines- The Gators are likely to number two behind Texas A&M for Hines. Gators linebackers coach Randy Shannon is close with the family and they will keep the Gators in the mix until he announces in mid-December. In-home visits will be key but Florida has work to do here.

Tight end Tre McKitty- McKitty would be the Gators third tight end in the class but that’s something Florida is ok with. McKitty is scheduled to visit on December 10th for an official visit and most do not believe he will stick with his Oregon commitment. The Gators and Florida State are the two schools that can flip McKitty.
