Florida Gators recruiting: A look at the top 2024 tight end targets

Billy Napier and his coaching staff have been in the process of offering prospects in the Class of 2024 and beyond during the dead period as they look to set their recruiting board for this year ahead of March visits.

The Gators 2024 class is already off to a great start as they have their leader of the class in quarterback DJ Lagway as well as commits from running back Chauncey Bowens and linebackers Adarius Hayes and Myles Graham.

GatorCountry is going to bring you a series that will look at the top prospects at each position in the 2024 class ahead of spring visits in March.

We started with the running back position and then moved to receiver, and now we will look at the tight end position as the Gators look to sign at least one in the 2024 class.

Tight end

Tight end Walter Matthews- Matthews has been in Gainesville several times including for last year’s game against South Carolina. Tight end coach William Peagler visited Matthews in January and the Gators are likely to get the tight end on campus this spring before an official visit. The Gators are battling Michigan and Ohio State for Matthews as the tight end plans to visit both schools this fall.

Tight end Caleb Odom- Odom like Matthews is from Georgia and the tight end visited Gainesville in January for junior day. The visit went well, and Odom says the Gators are in contention to receive an official visit now as Ole Miss, Penn State, and Tennessee are all in the mix as well as several other SEC schools. The Gators need to get Odom back on campus again to become a serious contender.

Tight end Colton Heinrich- The Gators offered the Fort Lauderdale native earlier this month and Heinrich quickly set up a visit to Gainesville for April. Heinrich grew up rooting for the Gators and has attended several games in the Swamp and now he’s building a relationship with Peagler and the rest of the staff. The Gators are sitting in a good spot for Heinrich early on.

Tight end Amir Jackson- Jackson visited Gainesville in January and picked up an offer while on campus and the Gators quickly became one of if not the top teams in Jackson’s recruitment. Kentucky and Florida State have recently offered Jackson as the 6-5 tight end has seen his recruitment expand a lot since teams watched his film.
