The Florida Gators will be without starting quarterback Will Grier for the remainder of the season for a violation of NCAA rules. Grier will be able to appeal the ruling but will remain ineligible during the appeal process.
“I wanted an opportunity to meet with our football team before we talked about this.’’ Mac on Grier not playing this week or near future. He took a supplement, an over the counter supplement with something banned in it.”
“I took an over the counter supplement that had something in it,” Grier said. “I did not check with the medical staff before taking it. I really hope that people can learn from this, learn from my mistake. I’m really, really sorry to everyone. Just really sorry.”
Grier has started five of the Gators six games this season, leading the No. 8 Florida Gators to a 6-0 start and 4-0 start in Southeastern Conference play. Grier has completed 106-of-161 (65.8%) passes this season for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s added two more touchdowns on the ground along with 116 yards on 36 carries.
The Florida Gators offense has shown signs of maturation throughout the season before stalling last week against the Missouri Tigers on the road.
