Florida Gators quarterback recruiting board

Between spring practice and junior days, the Florida Gators hosted well over 100 prospects and those efforts have a lot of recruits thinking about the Orange and Blue.

Over the next week Gator Country is going to break down each position and take a look at who the Gators have the best chance of landing at each position.

To start of the series we talked about the offensive line board, receiver position, the running back position and now we go to the much needed quarterback position.

Florida needs to sign at least one quarterback in this class and they may end up taking two quarterbacks if something happens with one on scholarship now.

Quarterback targets with offers

Felipe Franks (6-6, 203, Crawfordville, FL Wakulla)

Teams in contention: Franks is committed to LSU right now but Florida is trying to get back in the mix.

What Florida’s chances: OC Doug Nussmeier and head coach Jim McElwain are trying hard to get Franks on campus this summer and the two parties have been talking a good bit. It’s going to be tough to flip Franks from LSU because he has some family from Louisiana and he also plans to play football and baseball at LSU.

Dwayne Haskins Jr. (6-2, 188, Potomac, MD Bullis Schools)

Teams in contention: Florida, Alabama, Maryland, LSU and Notre Dame are all top contenders.

What Florida’s chances: Haskins visited Florida this spring and has talked of visiting Florida again, but he has visited Maryland several times this spring already. Haskins is the Gators’ top quarterback target and Doug Nussmeier has built a solid relationship with Haskins, but he must visit Florida again before the Gators have a true shot here.

Quarterback targets who could earn an offer

Woody Barrett (6-2, 221, Winter Garden, West Orange)

Teams in contention: Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss are teams considered to be in the mix.

What Florida’s chances: Florida has yet to offer Barrett but if the Gators were to offer, they would be in good shape. Florida plans to visit Barrett this spring and evaluate him more and an offer could come this spring or summer.

Logan Byrd (6-3, 232, Kathleen, GA Veterans High School)

Teams in contention: Byrd is committed to North Carolina but an offer from Florida could change that or at least get Florida in the mix again.

What Florida’s chances: Florida plans to go and evaluate Byrd this spring and an offer could come and Byrd has already visited Florida this spring. Byrd really liked the trip to Gainesville and an offer from the Gators could get Florida in the mix.

  1. I’ll go on and say it…. I am getting a little nervous here. No way will I get my hopes up and Haskins. That’s not happening IMO. I think we need 2 QBs in this class. The QB I think we have the best shot at is Miami commit Jack Allison. I think as our second QB, we should offer and hope to develop Rex Culpepper. I wouldn’t mind pushing for Jawon Pass as well. Thoughts?

    • Allison really likes Miami and James Coley. IMO Florida needs a guy more developed then Culpepper but Florida will use the evaluation period to find more quarterbacks.
