Florida Gators after a Miami linebacker commit

The Florida Gators didn’t sign a linebacker in the Class of 2014 so they are trying to stack up at the position in 2015 and one of the new targets on the board is Miami linebacker commit Charles Perry (6-2, 200, West Palm Beach, FL. Royal Palm Beach) who received a visit from defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin a few weeks ago.

“I talk to Florida a couple of times a week,” Perry said. “I talk to Coach Durkin the most. He actually came by to visit me at my school during their bye week. It was pretty good to have him out there.”

When Perry and Durkin talk it’s usually the Florida coach talking and reminding Perry of a simple message.

“Coach Durkin just reminds me how much he needs me when we talk,” Perry said. “He tells me to keep the hard work up and keep doing what I do best on the field. He tells me to give Florida a chance and to come up and visit and just see if I like up there or not. Coach Durkin says for me to just keep Florida in my top group and that I could help Florida get better.”

Perry has yet to visit Florida this fall but he has watched the Gators’ defense on TV as he tries to envision whether or not he would fit into the Florida Gators defense.

“Florida always has a good defense and I think I could help them,” Perry said. “Coach Durkin hasn’t really talked to me about what position he wants me to play but he just tells me that I can help them out.”

The star linebacker will be no easy flip for Will Muschamp and his staff as he has been committed for over a year now but he says the Gators are one schools he talks to a good bit.

“I’m solid to Miami,” Perry said. “I have to keep my options open because you never know what can happen. But really, Miami and Florida are the only schools that I talk to a lot.”

Durkin is working hard to get Perry up on a visit to Gainesville and the linebacker says it could be more than once.

“I haven’t set a visit date yet to Florida but I plan to take an official and unofficial to Florida,” Perry said. “I want to make my final decision on National Signing day so I have some time.”

INSIDER TAKE: If Florida gets Perry up for a visit they have a shot but with the linebacker being a local Miami guy who has been committed for over year it will be tough. Perry is a good prospect that could play any of the linebacker positions after he hits the college strength program.
