Florida Gators made a move for Sanders on Saturday

Ever since Jim McElwain arrived as head coach of the Florida Gators, the staff has been able to land top running back recruits.

The Gators already have two good ones for 2018 and on Saturday hosted one of the top ones for the 2019 class in Alabama commit Trey Sanders (5-11, 216, Bradenton, FL. IMG) who enjoyed the game.

“It’s big time rivalry, it was a good time to just come up and watch it,” Sanders said of his visit on Saturday. “They lost by a field goal but it was still a great defensive game in my opinion.”

Sanders was impressed by the Gators running game and desire to get the running backs involved.

“#20 [Malik Davis], I know he’s a freshman but he was running the ball hard,” he said of how the offense looked. “This what I like about this team, they run the ball a lot which I want to do in college is run the ball a lot.”

The Alabama commit came to town on Saturday just wanting to watch the game but he left interested in the Gators.

“It changes a lot in my mind,” Sanders said if watching a freshman play changed his look on Florida. “I was just supposed to come up and watch this game with my friends but to see how this offense is now, is unbelievable.”

Two of the Gators staff members in the recruiting department have been communicating with Sanders and explaining why they want him in Gainesville.

“Ryan Smith and Coach Drew [Hughes],” he said on who he talks to from Florida. “They want me to come here and they want me bad. They want me here next year and I mean it could happen, could not.”

After seeing the running game, Sanders left Gainesville with the Gators on his mind .

“The Gators moved pretty high today,” Sanders said on if Florida made up ground for him. “After the way the running backs performed tonight and the way they ran the ball, I liked it a lot.”

Sanders remains solid to Alabama but admits that he’s keeping his options open on other schools.

“Florida is still even with everybody, everybody is still in my recruitment,” he said on where Florida stacks up with him now. “But still solid committed to Alabama right now.”
