Linebackers will be under new management in Gainesville next season as Christian Robinson accepted a position on Jim Harbaugh’s staff at Michigan.
Robinson leaves Todd Grantham to join forces with another coach he shares Georgia connections with as Michigan recently hired Mike MacDonald as its new defensive coordinator.
Robinson joined the Florida Gators as a part of Dan Mullen’s original staff. It was his first full-time coaching position following graduate assistant roles at Georgia, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
In three seasons as linebackers coach for the Gators, Robinson’s youthful energy quickly made him one of the most well-liked coaches among players and recruits.
A few of his top recruits at Florida include linebackers Derek Wingo and Ty’Ron Hopper as well as cornerback Jahari Rogers and defensive end Jeremiah Williams.
He helped David Reese II to a strong finish in his career, Vosean Joseph to a breakout season and Ventrell Miller to a strong career that continues with the Gators.
While some of Florida’s linebackers played extremely well under Robinson, development seemed to be a key issue.
Assuming Miller returns for the 2021 season, the Gators’ new linebackers coach will have a room including him as well as fellow SEC veterans Mohamoud Diabate and Amari Burney.
The departure of Robinson leaves another hole in Florida’s defensive staff that will need to be filled in the coming weeks
Gator Country will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
How is Christian Robinson doing up at Michigan? I hope he is doing well. That was a tough loss for UF staff
