Florida Gators land in Miami commit’s top three after Saturday’s offer

The Florida Gators coaching staff is back from vacation as they prepare for the dead period to end next week.

On Saturday the coaching staff handed out a new offer when they offered Miami cornerback commit Jarvis Brownlee (5-10, 169, Miami, FL. Carol City) a scholarship.

“Coach [Brian] Johnson and Coach [Charlton] Warren offered me,” Brownlee said.

The offer from Florida is one that Brownlee has been waiting on and trusting would come if he put in the work on the field.

“The offer means a lot, of course Florida is a top school in general and even for me because it’s a DBU school,” he said of what the offer means to him. “You know I’ve been waiting on it since spring but I just had to keep trusting the process and being humble.”

When Brownlee spoke to defensive backs coach Charlton Warren on Saturday the coach explained why the Gators were offering him.

“He told me that they went over my film and he loved it,” Brownlee said of what Warren told him. “He told me he wanted to get me on campus as soon as possible so I could meet the swamp family and get to know the guys.”

Warren also explained to Brownlee on Saturday how he would fit into the defense if he were to come to Florida for college.

“He told me I fit good in the defense because they play press coverage,” he said of how Warren sees him fitting into the defense. “He told me he liked the way I flip my hips and burst to the ball and my long arms and my ability to play press coverage and that he liked the way I compete.”

Quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson is the area recruiter for Brownlee and also spoke briefly with Brownlee on Saturday.

“Coach Johnson you know he just told me I’m a great player,” Brownlee said of Johnson’s message to him. “He said he’s going to be recruiting me hard this fall.”

Despite the offer, Brownlee admits that he’s still building a relationship with the Florida coaching staff but he’s looking forward to learning more about them.

“You know we don’t really have that close bond yet but me and Coach Johnson we text from time to time,” he said of his relationship with the coaching staff. “Coach Warren and I never really got to meet but hopefully we can get to know more about each other sometime soon.”

Brownlee admits that while he’s solid to Miami that the Gators are a school he’s going to think about.

“Florida is in my top three no doubt,” Brownlee said of Florida. “I have a long season ahead of me but Florida will definitely be in the mix.”

A final decision won’t come until at least this fall but the Gators can expect to get the Miami commit on campus.

“Not yet soon,” he said when asked if he has a visit to Florida set up. “Of course they will get an official visit and I will say I’ll make a final decision during the middle of my season or toward the end when everything is easing down.”
