Florida Gators lacrosse to host AAC conference tournament

Special report on the Florida Gators lacrosse team:

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 8 Florida lacrosse team is set to host the second American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship, beginning with Thursday’s semifinal against Cincinnati.

Opening draw is slated for 4:30 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The game will stream on ESPN+ and can be heard on FloridaGators.com/watch.

Lincoln Rose will serve as the play-by-play announcer for all three games, while Kit McConnico will handle the color duties for the weekend.

The second semifinal will be between Vanderbilt and Temple 45 minutes after the conclusion of Florida’s game. If the Gators were to advance, they face the winner of semifinal No. 2 at 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Florida is coming off a 17-2 victory over Liberty on April 28, while the Bearcats played their regular season finale on April 25, topping the ECU Pirates 14-13 to clinch the No. 4 seed in the tournament.

The Gators and the Bearcats are meeting for the 10th time in program history, with Florida holding the 9-0 series advantage. Florida swept the series against the Cincinnati this season, topping UC 20-3 and 19-5 at The Diz.

UF went 10-0 during AAC play, securing the program’s 10th straight regular season championship. The Gators are on a quest to hoist their seventh-straight conference tournament trophy when play begins on Thursday.

Florida swept the six major postseason awards, as the league announced Wednesday. Grace Haus was named AAC Attacker of the Year, Shannon Kavanagh was tabbed as AAC Midfielder of the Year, Cara Trombetta earned AAC Defensive Player of the Year accolades, Sarah Reznick was named AAC Goalkeeper of the Year and Danielle Pavinelli earned AAC Freshman of the Year in her rookie campaign.

To round out the award winners, Florida’s staff of Amanda O’Leary, Taryn VanThof and Nadine Hadnagy were named as the AAC Coaching Staff of the Year.

Fan Policies at The Diz

*   Gators lacrosse looks to maximize fan seating while maintaining social distancing
*   Admission at Donald R. Dizney Stadium is free and will be capped at approximately 700 fans
*   Blocks of seats at the Diz will be marked and fans attending the games will need to sit in those marked seats to ensure proper physical distancing
*   In accordance with UF Health and campus guidelines, face coverings (over the nose and mouth) will be required of all guests throughout the entire game. Failure to comply with this important health guideline could result in loss of attendance privileges
*   The Diz will feature new signage to help reinforce safety measures and will also feature an increased number of hand sanitizer stations
