Florida Gators lacrosse team starts season ranked number 14

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida lacrosse team will begin the 2020 season ranked No. 14 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, as announced on Monday.

The 2020 season marks the 10th time the Gators have been ranked in the IWLCA Preseason poll.

Florida is set to face nine ranked opponents during the 2020 season, kicking off with the home opener against No. 18 Colorado. Throughout the rest of non-conference play, the Gators will face No. 1 Maryland, No. 2 North Carolina, No. 6 Princeton, No. 11 Loyola, No. 13 Stony Brook, No. 15 Navy, No. 22 Dartmouth and No. 25 High Point.

Florida won three of the major AAC Preseason awards as well, with Haus (Attacker of the Year), Kavanagh (Midfielder of the Year) and Trombetta (Defender of the Year) all receiving accolades.

Last season, Florida went 14-7 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the AAC to win the program’s ninth-straight conference title. The Gators also clinched the AAC Tournament Championship – their sixth-straight tournament championship.

Andrew Spivey
Andrew always knew he wanted to be involved with sports in some capacity. He began by coaching high school football for six years before deciding to pursue a career in journalism. While coaching, he was a part of two state semifinal teams in the state of Alabama. Given his past coaching experience, he figured covering recruiting would be a perfect fit.
