Florida Gators gymnastics to take on #10 Georgia to finish SEC play

Florida seeks its first undefeated SEC regular-season Friday. Beginning in 1992, league scheduling included meeting all SEC teams in the regular season. Florida’s was unbeaten in the 2007 season with a 5-0-1 record.

Georgia is the Gators’ fourth top-10 opponent this season. The UF at UGA meet is one of two top-10 matchups this weekend.

SEC Regular-Season Champs:
Florida enters Friday’s meet after clinching its second consecutive Southeastern Conference regular-season title. The Gators are undefeated in SEC action (6-0) and all other teams have at least two league losses. SEC regular-season champions began being recognized in 2017.

The Gators Last Meet:
Florida claimed the SEC regular-season title with a 198.05 – 197.45 win over then No. 8 Alabama last Friday in front of a sellout Exactech Arena crowd of 9,301. The total stands as the nation’s No. 6 total of the season and Florida owns four of the nation’s top 10 scores of 2020.

A Gator earned a perfect mark for the third consecutive meet, as senior Sierra Alexander earned a 9.95 for her soaring Yurchenko full vault (maximum value 9.95). Two Gators – Leah Clapper (beam) and Alyssa Baumann (floor) – used collegiate-best marks of near perfect 9.975 to claim event wins.. Sophomore Trinity Thomas claimed her fifth consecutive all-around win with the SEC’s leading total of the weekend (39.65).

Georgia is 8-5 in 2020 and has won its last two meets (197.0750 vs Ball State 194.725, Eastern Michigan 194.70 and 197.05-196.825 at Kentucky). The 197.425 in win versus Auburn on Feb. 2 is the Gymdog’s season high. Sophomore Rachael Lukacs’ runner-up total vs LSU (39.375) leads UGA 2020 all-arounders.
