The Florida Gators will officially start the Jon Sumrall era on Saturday night in the Swamp when the Gators kick-off the season against Florida Atlantic.
There’s a lot of hope and excitement surrounding the program as Sumrall has built a solid roster but also has created some momentum in recruiting.
GatorCountry talked to several of the Gators’ commits and asked them what they expect and what they want to see from year one of the Sumrall era in Gainesville.
Defensive line commit Zahmar Tookes- “I believe Coach Sumrall is going to turn this program around and I’m confident that we will have a winning season this year. I really believe in what he’s building here.”
Quarterback commit Davin Davidson- “I think they will surprise a lot of people and I think this year is going to be a lot of fun to watch.”
Tight end commit Jackson Ballinger- “I think a lot of people look at this year as a rebuild year for Florida but I know the whole program is ready to turn heads right away. I think they will be extremely competitive, placing somewhere in the top of the SEC and hopefully the country.”
Defensive back Kamauri Whitfield- “I feel like they’re going to come out and dominate. They will have a breakout year.”
Long snapper commit Jaydee Lane- “Gator fans should be ready for the Sumrall era. He’s a winner and winners win. He has some talent with him now but will have more once this class gets in. I’m looking forward to seeing it.”
Receiver commit Tramond Collins- “I feel good about them boys and how they’re going do, they’ve been working hard this whole offseason and been grinding so I feel like they’re going to get it done this year.”
Offensive lineman Peyton Miller- “They will do better than everyone thinks they will do.”
Defensive back Aamaury Fountain- “I expect they make a bowl game.”
