Gator Country can confirm that Phil Trautwein is joining Florida’s staff as its offensive line coach. A former Gators’ offensive lineman from 2004-08, Trautwein spent the last six seasons as Penn State’s offensive line coach.
Prior to his time with the Nittany Lions, Trautwein served as Boston College’s offensive line coach from 2018-19.
With a strong track record of recruiting and development, Trautwein has sent 14 offensive linemen to the NFL since 2018 including ten draft picks. Among those were first round pick Olumuyiwa Fashanu, first round pick Chris Lindstrom, first round pick Zion Johnson, second round pick Juice Scruggs, and third round pick Caedan Wallace.
Since 2020, Penn State is tied for second nationally for most offensive linemen selected in the NFL Draft (7). Penn State redshirt junior guard Olaivavega Ioane is a projected first round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft after four seasons under Trautwein.
Penn State had four All-Big Ten offensive linemen in 2024, highlighted by second teamer Olaivavega Ioane, and the offense finished first in the Big Ten in rushing (202.3; 17th nationally) and second in fewest tackles for loss allowed (3.8; 9th).
Powered by a dominant offensive line, the Nittany Lions surged to the 2024 College Football Playoff Semifinal in 2024. The front five helped pave the way for Kaytron Allen (1,108 yards) and Nicholas Singleton (1,099 yards) to become the first duo in program history to each eclipse 1,000 rushing yards in the same season.
Trautwein has mentored 31 All-Conference selections over the last eight seasons across his tenures at Penn State and Boston College.
As a player, Trautwein was a two-time All-SEC selection and two-time team captain as a left tackle at Florida, earning first-team honors in 2008 and second-team accolades in 2006. The New Jersey native helped Florida claim the BCS National Championship and SEC titles in the 2006 and 2008 seasons.
Now 39 years old, Trautwein played four seasons in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, and San Diego Chargers.
