Five guys likely to sign with the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators are looking to gain some momentum on the recruiting trail after their big win last Saturday night against the Georgia Bulldogs.

A lot of prospects were impressed by Saturday’s win but are also paying close attention to the rest of the Gators season and also whether or not Will Muschamp will be retained as the Florida Gators head coach.

Despite all of the above there are still some prospects that feel like are Gators leans or have the Gators as leaders.

In this article I’m going to talk about five prospects that I feel like will be Florida Gators in February on national signing day. These are in no order.

Defensive end Byron Cowart

Reasons for UF: Cowart has been to Florida far more times than he’s been anywhere else and the thought of staying close to his mom is a positive for his family. Cowart grew up rooting for Florida and has called Dante Fowler someone that he looks up too and Cowart loves defensive line coach Brad Lawing. With Cowart being on campus so much he also grown close to other players as well as the whole coaching staff.

Top contenders to UF: Alabama and Florida State are the two schools that I think are the biggest threats to Florida. Cowart has already taken an official to Alabama and is likely to take one to Florida State in January.

Defensive end CeCe Jefferson

Reasons for UF: Jefferson is a huge Florida fan and his father loves the Gators as well and even has a Gators tattoo. Jefferson much like Cowart has been to Florida far more than anywhere else and he has a great relationship with both Will Muschamp and Brad Lawing. Florida also playing time available to Jefferson as the Gators is likely to lose a few defensive linemen this year.

Top contenders to UF: Alabama and Ole Miss put up the biggest threat to Florida as Jefferson has already taken officials to both schools. The key for Florida is whether or not Jefferson takes an unofficial to those schools.

Offensive lineman Martez Ivey

Reasons for UF: Ivey a lot like Jefferson and Cowart loves Florida and has called them his dream school in the past. Ivey has said on the record that if Florida were winning more that he would’ve already committed to Florida. Ivey also sees that Florida is possibly losing D.J. Humphries to the draft this year.

Top contenders to UF: Auburn is the team to watch out for because of Ivey’s bestfriend Chandler Cox. Cox committed to Auburn during the summer and has tried to get Ivey to commit to Auburn but so far he’s been unsuccessful. Ivey will take an official to Auburn this coming weekend as has already taken one to Florida.

Cornerback Jeremy McDuffie

Reason for UF: McDuffie wants to run track as well as play football and that’s something that he can do the best at Florida. McDuffie is being recruited hard by the Gators track and field team and he also has a few friends that are going to Florida on track scholarships. McDuffie also sees the Gators as a good place to play cornerback and Florida’s track record for producing top defensive backs speaks for itself.

Top contenders to UF: Duke was one of the first schools to offer McDuffie and he called them his co-leader with Florida during the summer. McDuffie hasn’t visited Duke since this past summer however.

Linebacker Jeffrey Holland

Reason for UF: Holland who lives just down the road in Jacksonville and has been at Florida a lot this fall including spending multiple days in Gainesville a few times. Holland also sees that he has a big opportunity to play early at Florida as the Gators are in huge need of linebackers in this class. Holland has grown close to more than a few of Florida’s current players.

Top contenders to UF: Auburn is the school that Holland has family connection to but he hasn’t been to Auburn near as much as he’s been to Florida. Holland continues to claim no leaders and hasn’t set an official to Auburn yet.

  1. Momentum means someone actually saying yes, which hasn’t happened yet. Right now UF has only, well I think it’s under ten guys pledged, which is probably as bad as anyone else in the country. Until that changes, I would not feel confident about anyone on this list. Let’s wait, who knows what Florida team will show up the rest of the year, the one at Homecoming or the one in Jacksonville. I know Foley desperately wants any excuse to keep Muschamp, maybe the win over Georgia is enough for him, we, and the recruits, will have to wait anther month to find out the answer.

    • I feel the same way as a lot of Florida Fans when it comes to Snowprint and his comments.
It gets to be sooo repetitive and negative. And I don’t look at myself as a “Sunshine Pumper” either… but like many of us, all of us just get tired of his comments and wish that he would crawl into some deep, dark basement at Joe’s Crab Shack.
Having said the above, I DO want to commend him on his somewhat positive statements following the Florida-Georgia game. I must say that I was surprized by his words and was a bit bewildered… thinking that could these actually be the words of the notorious Snowprint???
Maybe The Grinch does have a heart deep inside that glittered garnet and gold chest of his???
      We shall see.

  2. Maybe this is not the place for this question, but who do we expect to leave early? I can’t believe Humphries is so good, he’s ready for that leap? I imagine Fowler of course, but any chance he stays and gets his degree?

  3. Jameisprint, hahaha. For real though, how long til u realize no one here, as in all readers of this website, give a damn about your cynical opinions and would prefer you keep them to youself before you find a better hobby than bashing every article posted.

    • I just speak in terms of reality, sorry that I don’t believe in fiction. One advantage in keeping guys, rather than seeing them leave early, is the new evaluation system. Now they will only be told if they are probable high picks, first or second round, and if they aren’t included in that group, the smart ones would choose to stay to improve their draft stock. I don’t see Humphries, Morrison, or Bullard receiving a favorable report. Whether they are smart enough to realize they should stay is another matter.
By the way, I enjoy my critics, at least it let’s me know how much you hang on my every word.
