Five Gamecocks to watch vs. Florida

No. 16 Florida (4-1, 2-1 SEC) is set to host South Carolina (2-3, 0-3 SEC) inside The Swamp at 12:45 p.m. ET in Week 6.

The Gamecocks have improved in several areas from last season and are a better team than their record suggests. However, their 0-3 start in conference play isn’t without reason. South Carolina has struggled to close out games, with its second-half performances serving as a clear example. The Gamecocks held two-score leads over Mississippi State and Kentucky after halftime but went on to lose both games.

Still, Shane Beamer’s squad has plenty of talent. As part of our weekly scouting report, Gator Country highlights five Gamecocks to watch.

QB LaNorris Sellers #16

South Carolina’s offense runs through the ground game, and senior quarterback LaNorris Sellers is a huge part of that. He’s totaled 391 rushing yards through five games, including four performances of 50-plus yards and two of 100-plus.

He’s not nearly as consistent as a passer, but he has great arm strength and can make throws at every level. Sellers has completed 60.5% of his passes for 1,059 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He rarely attacks the middle of the field, with roughly 72% of his attempts coming behind the line of scrimmage or within 9 yards of it.

At 6-foot-3, 238 pounds, Sellers is a gifted athlete with legitimate straight-line speed, which is rare for someone his size. His bulky frame allows him to absorb contact and break tackles. Florida needs to keep him contained in the pocket and prevent him from extending plays. The Gators must also account for the read-option game and designed quarterback runs. Setting the edge, maintaining discipline and swarming to the football will be key.

RB Matt Fuller #28

Junior running back Matt Fuller is in the middle of a breakout season, leading South Carolina with 433 rushing yards while averaging 6.1 yards per carry. He’s also found the end zone five times through five games.

At 5-foot-11, 221 pounds, Fuller is a bigger back who averages 4.55 yards after contact, more than Florida’s Jadan Baugh through five games. He’s also been a threat in the passing game, hauling in 14 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. Against Mississippi State and Alabama alone, he combined for 12 receptions for 105 yards and a score.

Florida head coach Jon Sumrall identified Fuller as a player who doesn’t get enough credit for his role in South Carolina’s offense.

WR Nyck Harbor #8

Nyck Harbor hasn’t fully lived up to his potential at the collegiate level, in part because South Carolina has struggled to establish a consistent passing game during his time in Columbia. However, he’s a physically gifted receiver who presents a big-play threat and will test Florida’s secondary.

At 6-foot-5, 239 pounds, Harbor has the size of a tight end but the athleticism of a wide receiver. He has just 13 catches for 195 yards and a touchdown this season, but he’s capable of making an impact on any play. In four seasons at South Carolina, Harbor has averaged more than 14.5 yards per catch, including a career-high 20.6 yards in 2025.

Harbor’s large catch radius could present problems for Florida’s undersized cornerbacks. He’s a legitimate vertical threat, and the Gators will need to challenge him at the catch point.

DE Dylan Stewart #6

It was unclear whether Dylan Stewart would play against Florida after being suspended from all team activities last week. However, he’s returned to practice and appears to be on track to suit up against the Gators in Week 6.

Stewart is projected as a first-round pick, with some mock drafts listing him as the top defensive player selected. His off-field issues could affect his draft stock. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound defensive end is a long, explosive pass rusher who has recorded 11 sacks and six forced fumbles over the last two seasons. He’s also proven to be effective against the run.

A back injury and his suspension have limited Stewart’s production in 2026. He’s totaled just one tackle across two games and 43 snaps. Still, he remains one of the most talented players on South Carolina’s defense and presents a significant challenge for Florida’s offensive line.

DL Tomiwa Durojaiye #13

South Carolina is holding opponents to just over 100 rushing yards per game this season, and fifth-year defensive tackle Tomiwa Durojaiye has played a significant role in that success. The 6-foot-4, 291-pound lineman has recorded 16 tackles and two sacks while grading as the team’s top run defender. He’s also generated eight pressures and posted a 17.8% win rate on true pass sets, an impressive mark for an interior defender.

Linebacker Justin Okoronkwo is another player to watch. He leads the Gamecocks with 36 tackles and has missed just three tackles all season.
