Feleipe Franks carted off field with leg injury

Florida Gators starting quarterback Feleipe Franks was carted off the field in the third quarter against Kentucky with an apparent leg injury and is expected to be lost for the season.

“I think, they feel pretty certain there was a break and some dislocations, so he’ll be out for the year,” Dan Mullen said after the game. “Obviously a huge loss for us.”

Trailing Kentucky 21-10 the Gators were attempting to convert on fourth down. Franks was tackled from behind, and a Kentucky defender came down on Franks’ ankle. The quarterback was visibly upset and emotional on the field. Florida’s trainers immediately put his right ankle in an air cast before Franks was loaded on to a cart.

The entire Florida sideline emptied and surrounded the cart before Franks’ departure. On television, ESPN commentator Brian Griese called the injury a “dislocated ankle.”

Kyle Trask took over for Franks at quarterback.

Gator Country will update this story with quotes from Dan Mullen after the game.

He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida.
