Evers says the Florida Gators feel like home to him

The Florida Gators picked up a commitment on Tuesday night from quarterback Nick Evers (6-3, 190, Flower Mound, TX. High) who has seen his stock rise quickly the last few weeks.

Evers was one of the first guys to pick up an offer from new quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee and Evers said he committed to Florida because of that and other reasons.

“Just the program itself, everything Florida has to offer, it’s honestly just the best fit for me,” Evers said on why he committed to Florida. “Obviously their football is top tier in the SEC, Coach [Dan] Mullen can really develop quarterbacks, McGee as well. I built a relationship with them and the education is top-notch. It just felt like home to me.”

Evers has been excited about the Gators since he picked up the offer and the quarterback says he knew Florida was the place for him for a while now.

“Honestly, ever since I picked up the offer I knew it was a special place,” he said when he knew Florida was the place for him. “It was just a feeling in my heart since I got the offer and I started to build relationships with all of the coaches and I started to get drawn into Florida even more.”

McGee and Dan Mullen have spoken a lot with Evers about what they like about his game and what he does well as a quarterback.

“We really haven’t gone in-depth on how they will use me yet but they’ve just said what they like about me,” Evers said on the message from the coaches. “They really love my all-around quarterback play, I’m a dangerous runner when I tuck it and run and I can sling the ball down the field.”

Evers took notice of what fellow Texas quarterback Kyle Trask was able to do in Gainesville the last few years under Mullen.

“What I’ve noticed is Kyle Trask was a 3-star coming in and Coach Mullen really developed him into a Heisman contender and now he’s going to the NFL draft,” he said of Mullen’s history with quarterbacks. “That’s one thing I look for in a coach is how they develop a quarterback and Coach Mullen has what it takes.”

Now that Evers has committed to the Gators, he plans to start trying to get others to join him in Gainesville.

“I’m a recruiter now, I’m going hard after some of these guys,” Evers said. “We’ve got a few guys in mind that we’re going to go after pretty hard. I’m ready to get to work.”
