The Florida Gators coaching staff is looking to add a quarterback to the 2022 class and they have several top options on the board right now.
2022 quarterback Nick Evers (6-3, 190, Flower Mound, TX. High) is one of those guys and he had a zoom call with the Gators last week.
“It was great, Coach [Garrick] McGee connected with us, had a great discussion about their process,” Evers said of zoom call with Florida last week. “I know I’m sitting at the top of their board with a couple of other great quarterbacks.”
Quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee explained to Evers why he’s high on their board and what the Gators like about his mindset.
“Coach McGee said he’s in the business of evaluating quarterbacks, he does his own evaluations and they collaborate as a staff on who fits what they want at Florida,” he said on what McGee told him. “He said he loves the fact that I was under the radar because guys like me have a healthy chip on their shoulders to prove doubters wrong.”
McGee also explained to Evers just why he fits the Gators’ offense and what the Gators like about his ability.
“He also said he loves my size at 6’4 because I have a frame that will easily hold great weight specifically when you can stay fast,” Evers said on how he fits into the offense. “Then he mentioned my accuracy and quick release which is something you can’t teach.”
Evers likes McGee’s straightforward approach in recruiting and the quarterback’s family is also learning about McGee.
“My dad connects with Coach McGee a decent amount which is cool,” he said on the relationship McGee has with him and his family. “My mom is eager to get to know him which I have no doubt will happen this week on the virtual visit.”
Next up for Evers will be a visit with the entire Gators coaching staff as well as several support staff members as well.
“I’ll be having a virtual visit early this week with the staff and I’m looking forward to learning more as well as letting them know more about me,” Evers said. “Biggest thing for me and my parents is to see how we connect with the staff, learn about the academic side, and what does the network look like for life after football.”
