Evans enjoys his first ever visit to see the Florida Gators

A lot of the top prospects in the country were in Gainesville on Saturday afternoon to watch the Florida Gators take down Auburn in a battle of unbeaten.

Defensive end Desmond Evans (6-6, 238, Sanford, NC. Lee County) is considered a top 25 player in the country and on Saturday he visited Gainesville.

“The visit was great, a lot of guys were flying around and that’s what I like to see,” Evans said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “The atmosphere was great, when you go to these schools you want to see the fans interact with the players, that’s a big role for me. If the fans are in it then the players are in it.”

Evans watched the Gators defense closely and he liked how the defensive line plays a lot like his high school plays.

“The defensive line played pretty good,” he said of his impressions of the defensive line. “The front they’re playing right now that’s the kind of format my school plays except we call the BUCK position the Bandit.”

After the game was over with Evans had the chance to talk with several coaches including defensive line coach David Turner.

“I basically talked to all of them but Coach [David] Turner is my main recruiter,” Evans said of the coaches he talked to on Saturday. “It was my first time getting down here so he was asking me how I liked it and telling me how I could come off the edge and rush the passer. We’re building a relationship but they see me as a BUCK.”

Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham also wanted to see how Evans was enjoying his first visit to the Swamp on Saturday.

“Coach Grantham was just asking me questions about the visit,” he said. “He asked me if I liked the visit and if I could see myself here and stuff like that. They’re cool dudes to hang out with and they like to win.”

Saturday’s visit lived up to Evans’ high expectations, as he wanted to see a loud atmosphere and a good game for the Gators.

“Florida is in my top five and I really don’t know anything about them so I said why not come down for a game,” Evans said on why he decided to visit Florida this weekend. “I wanted to see how the vibe was, it lived up to my expectations of the visit.”

Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech are the top five schools for Evans and he says everyone is even out of those five schools but he’s planning a return trip to Gainesville already.

“Everybody in my top five is neutral, I’m just trying to get official visits going on,” he said on his interest in Florida. “I’m working on setting up my official visit to Florida now.”
