Ellies breaks down Florida Gators offer after FNL performance

The Florida Gators handed out several offers on Saturday following Friday Night Lights on Friday as several guys earned their offer with their camp performances.

Defensive tackle D’Von Ellies (6-2, 280, Owings Mills, MD. McDonogh School) picked up an offer from Gators head coach Dan Mullen on Saturday.

“Coach Mullen offered me,” Ellies said on which coach from Florida offered him. “He offered me today [Saturday].”

Mullen explained to Ellies on Saturday just why the Gators wanted to offer him a scholarship.

“He said that he was very impressed with what he saw yesterday [Friday],” he said of what Mullen told him. “He said he looks forward to building a relationship with me and watching how my senior year turns out.”

Defensive line coach Sal Sunseri also explained to Ellies what he liked about the defensive tackle’s game on Friday.

“I looked great out there,” Ellies said of the message from Sunseri. “He was impressed as well with how I moved and such. We didn’t really get to talk extensively about a lot this time.”

This was the first time for Ellies to meet Sunseri and the first impression was a good one for the Maryland native.

“I love it,” he said of Sunseri’s coaching style. “He’s a funny guy at times and he reminds me of my old head coach. They both know what they’re talking about on the field. It was great to work with him honestly.”

Ellies walked away from his two-day visit to Gainesville with high praise for this Gators coaching staff.

“They’re a great group of coaches,” Ellies said of the coaching staff. “I see that they’re really passionate about what they do and their reasons for doing it are pure.”

Florida offering Ellies wasn’t something that he could’ve imagined a few days ago but thanks to one phone call he decided to visit.

“Not really,” he said if he had been hearing from Florida a lot before the visit. “Someone from the recruiting staff that I knew previously before he made the move to Florida and hit me up a couple days before the visit. My teammate was already headed down here so I just tagged along and did what I had to during the camp.”

Now that the Gators have offered Ellies, the defensive tackle says he needs to think about just what the Florida means.

“That’s a question I think only time will answer,” Ellies said of what the offer means to him. “Because right now I don’t really know what it means to me.”
