Drennen ready to visit the Florida Gators later this month

The Florida Gators coaching staff is enjoying a much need break for the dead period but soon recruiting will pick back up for college coaches around the country.

One guy that Florida has been recruiting hard is running back Michael Drennen II (5-10, 187, Dublin, OH. Dublin Coffman) who talks to the Gators a good bit.

“They’re recruiting me pretty hard, I talk to Coach [Greg] Knox mostly,” Drennen said of Florida. “I talk to them over text pretty frequently.”

Running backs coach Greg Knox has kept in touch with Drennen and his father as they try to build a relationship with each other.

“We just talk about a lot of things and just have normal conversations,” he said on his talks with Knox. “We keep updated with each other and my dad talks to him a lot and talks to Coach [Keiwan] Ratliff too.”

Knox and the Gators have explained to Drennen just how the Gators could use the running back in Florida’s offense if he comes to Gainesville.

“They told me that they like me in space,” Drennen said on what Florida likes about him. “They said I’m definitely the kind of ball carrier they want because I can make people miss and they would love to get me in the open field and be kind of a dual threat guy.”

Drennen has watched and heard a lot about Dan Mullen’s offense and he thinks he can fit into what Mullen likes to run in Gainesville.

“I think I fit it good,” he said on how he thinks he fits the offense. “I think I can do whatever is presented to me and take care of my business because I feel like I’m just an athlete that can play a lot of different visits.”

The running back hasn’t visited Gainesville yet but he has been trying to get a visit set up and his family is also fans of the Gators.

“Personally I really don’t know a lot because I don’t watch much football,” Drennen said of what he knows about Florida. “I’ve been telling my dad for awhile that I wanted to go check them out and see what they’re about. My brother has always liked the team.”

Drennen will get his chance to visit Gainesville in just a few shorts weeks when he’s town for the Gators big recruiting event later this month.

“I’m going to visit for Friday Night Lights,” he said on when he plans to visit Florida. “I just want to see the campus and see what it’s like. I want to see what goes on down there because I’ve only been to the state one time.”

The Gators aren’t the only big name school after Drennen as several other SEC schools want the running back.

“Tennessee, Kentucky, Arizona State, Stanford, Alabama and Florida,” Drennen said on the schools talking to him the most. “Personally distance isn’t really a factor for me.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Drennen says he may wait to signing day to make a decision but he isn’t sure on that.
