Douglas has the Florida “at the top” following his official visit

This weekend was the first big weekend for Billy Napier and his coaching staff as they look to put the finishing touches on the 2022 class.

Receiver Caleb Douglas (6-3, 185, Missouri City, TX. Hightower) was one of the official visitors in town and he had a good time meeting everyone.

“It was great, I met a lot of great people,” Douglas said of his visit to Florida. “I put name to faces. I just had a great time with Coach [Billy] Napier and everybody else.”

Cornerback Avery Helm is from Missouri City as well and he hosted Douglas during his visit to Gainesville this weekend.

“My host was Avery [Helm], because he’s from the same city as me,” he said on his player host. “Most of the coaches I was with, Coach Nap, Coach Keary Colbert and Joe Hamilton a lot.”

The coaching staff made sure to let Douglas know that the Gators’ need help at receiver and that they can get the Texas native the ball.

“Really just playing a lot,” Douglas said on the message from the coaching staff. “They’re thin at receiver so I would have a great chance to come in and play. Really just getting me the ball on any route.”

Katie Turner and Bri Wade are responsible for putting together the weekend and they also made Douglas feel welcomed in Gainesville.

“They weren’t really talking football with me,” he said on the message from Katie Turner and Bri Wade. “They were just saying it was great to have me here and that we really want you.”

Turner and Wade had a full weekend planned for the visitors and Douglas explained everything they were able to do during the visit including seeing the new facilities.

“When we first got there on Friday we went to Dave and Busters and to the steak house [Spurrier’s],” Douglas said on how the weekend was set up. “Saturday, we saw the facilities and all of that. They didn’t show us the old ones too much because they said the new ones were coming so they said not to get to worried about them because the new one is coming in June. Sunday, we just went into Coach Napier’s office and talked.”

On Sunday, Napier met with Douglas before the receiver left town and he explained how the Gators’ can prepare the Texas native for life after football.

“It went great,” he said on how the meeting with Napier went. “We were just chopping it up about life and how it’s more than just football, it’s mental and how he’s going to get his players ready for everything.”

Following the visit, Douglas says the Gators are sitting at the top and he enjoyed his time in town as it reminds him of home.

“They’re at the top,” Douglas said on where Florida stands with him. “I like that’s a college town and it’s kind of like Texas, it’s not too much different.

INSIDERS TAKE: Douglas said he may take a visit to Oregon on the 28th and that Florida plans to visit him this weekend.
