DL Zahmar Tookes commits to the Florida Gators over Penn State

The Florida Gators picked up their 19th commitment of the Class of 2027 on Wednesday afternoon from one of the official visitors they hosted on campus last weekend.

Defensive lineman Zahmar Tookes (6-4, 255, Rochester, NY. Brighton) committed to Florida over Penn State, Georgia, and Nebraska on Saturday, just hours after he left campus from his official visit.

Tookes took his official visit to Gainesville last weekend after he visited campus in March where he was able to watch spring practice and meet the coaching staff.

The Gators got in Tookes’ recruitment late and had to make up ground on Penn State and Nebraska but defensive line coach Gerald Chatman and defensive coordinator Brad White built a strong relationship with the New York native.

Tookes is a defensive lineman that can move around and play several different roles in the Gators’ defense and that was something that sold the staff on his ability.

As a junior Tookes accounted for 77 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, and he also caused a fumble as he helped lead his high school to an 11-3 record.

Tookes is the fourth defensive line commit in the class as he joins Cain Van Norden, De’Voun Kendrick, and Stive-Bentley Keumajou as defensive linemen committed to the Gators.
