Diwun Black is locked in with the Florida Gators

On Saturday night, the Florida Gators had several of their commits in town for the season opener against Charleston Southern.

One of those was athlete commit Diwun Black (6-4, 216, Kissimmee, FL. Osceola) who got to experience his first game in the Swamp on Saturday.

“It was a good experience, my first time in the Swamp,” Black said of his visit to Florida. “It was loud, it was fun. All the songs, the clapping, the chomp, the chomp, I’m just getting to use to it but it was good.”

Black watched the defense closely on Saturday and he was impressed by how the team competed on that side of the ball.

“They didn’t let them get a yard almost, they barely got a first down,” he said of the defense. “It was good watching the defense compete like that. They do a lot of trash talking and they back it up. I like that.”

The Gators commit also paid close attention to what kind of defense the Gators were playing and Black liked how the team swarmed Charleston Southern on defense.

“I paid attention to their man defense,” Black said on what he watched on Florida’s defense. “They were aggressive and they attacked the ball every time.”

Florida’s staff has talked to Black about how he will fit into the defense when he arrives in Gainesville next year.

“They told me right now that I’m going to play safety,” he said on how Florida sees him fitting into the defense. “They said if it don’t work out then I’ll go to linebacker, outside linebacker.”

While on campus Black continued his recruiting for the Gators as he was talking to everyone he could about Florida.

“Oh yeah a bunch of them,” Black said on if he was recruiting anyone. “I can’t remember everyone’s name but it was a bunch of them. Everyday, I’m going to recruit.”

Black who is known for his recruiting for the Gators has a short but simple message to targets for Florida.

“Florida is home, they’re about family and commitment,” he said on his recruiting pitch to other targets.

One thing that Black can tell recruits about is his relationship with Dan Mullen that has been going on for over two years now.

“I’m really comfortable with Dan Mullen,” Black said of his relationship with the coaching staff. “With Coach Mullen at Mississippi State we had a close relationship so when he left nothing changed. We still talked and facetimed with each other.”

Black who just recently transferred from Mississippi to Kissimmee for high school says there’s a few things he likes about being in Florida now.

“Getting out of Mississippi,” he said on what he likes about Florida laughing. “It’s cool, I like Gainesville, it’s chill and it’s just right for me.”

Now that Black is in the state for high school he has plans to be in Gainesville a lot this fall.

“The next home game, every home game,” Black said on his next visit to Florida. “I’m going to be here for every home game.”

When Black was asked to put a percentage on his commitment to Florida he didn’t have a number but simple word for it.

“Infinity,” he said on his commitment status to Florida. “This visit was a 10.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Black says he’s done with visits and that he’s locked in with Florida.
